Ernest Carlson

Ernest Carlson Jr.

Ernie Carlson of West Richland, WA died peacefully April 14, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family. His death was a result of complications from asbestosis and cancer. He was born on August 30, 1929 in Minot ND to Ernest and Agnes Mortenson Carlson.

Ernie lived a full life having worked for over 30 years in the nuclear industry at various locations throughout the United States. Finally deciding to return to the Tri-Cities he went to work at WPPSS where he retired in 1991. Never wanting to be idle and being a builder at heart he proceeded to design and build yet another home on a piece of property that he and his wife own. Ernie was never one to rest on his laurels; he always loved to work around the house on various projects whether it was restoring old cars or a vintage Cub Farmall tractor. He was a wellspring of knowledge and information. He was a wonderful man who touched each of our lives. Family was very important to him and he will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife Mary, children Cheryl Carlson, Willamina OR; Darcee Jim Stickler, Richland WA; Denyce Carlson, Richland WA; Brian Kristine Stockman, Finley WA; Kristen Brian Ekar, Pasco WA; brothers; Bill Carlson, Camarillo CA; David Carlson, Edmonds WA; sisters; Alma Rau, Richland WA; Charlotte Terry, Prescott AZ; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also many nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Reese Petty and Vern Moore. His parents and his brother Gordon Carlson preceded Ernie in death.

Ernie’s favorite bible verse was Psalm 23 and a short poem that touched his heart in his last days was written by his 8-year-old grandson Zachary, it went as follows: Peace is like a river Peace looks like a dove It sounds like no fighting And it can be love but, Peace is always a relaxing moment.

We love you and miss you Papa.

At Ernie’s request there will be no funeral service. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplancy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat Ave. Kennewick, WA. 99336

  • Dad was a wonderful father and grandfather. We had a lifetime with him and it wasn’t enough. You taught us wonderful values and life lessons. We respected you and will continue to make you proud of us. The last 4 months of your life I got to know you even better. Even in your illness you maintained your great sense of humor and showed so much love for your family. Dad, we will miss you greatly, but will be with you again someday. Until then, thank-you for being our father. Love, Jim and Darcee
