''SNEEZIE '' LORRAINE M. HOUSTON
Sneezie Houston was born September 8, 1933 to Jack and Maxine Perry Quilter at Fort Lewis, WA and later adopted as McGhee passed away April 20, 2004 in Richland, WA, at the age of 70.
Sneezie grew up in Kennewick and later in Toppenish, where she enjoyed horseback riding and was a princess during the Toppenish Pow Wow celebrations and was a member of the Toppenish Outlaws Riding Club. She was also an accomplished cornet player and enjoyed marching in the Drum and Bugle Corps. She took first place in the Washington State High School competition as a cornet player in her senior year. She considered it an honor to perform Taps at several military funeral services in Toppenish. Sneezie graduated from Toppenish High School in 1951.
In 1953 Sneezie married Jack Houston, also of Toppenish, and together they operated the Toppenish Bowling & Recreation Center. In 1958, after losing the Toppenish Center in a fire, they purchased the Richland Bowling Lanes and moved to Richland. They later formed a corporation and installed the Atomic Bowling Lanes in 1960. Bowling was a sport Sneezie excelled in and she was one of the top bowlers in the area, as attested by several dozen trophies. She also enjoyed watching golf, tennis, the Mariners and Seahawks.
Sneezie and Jack both had private pilots licenses and enjoyed taking flying trips within the states. Over the years, they also traveled by auto throughout the country and Canada and Mexico, and enjoyed several trips to Hawaii.
Sneezie and Jack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 7, 2003.
Sneezie was a 30-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and member of the Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary. She loved her cats, friends, music, and reading.
Sneezie is survived by her husband Jack, their three daughters, Jackie Hanson, Richland, Terry Raile; Issaquah, WA and Carole Rodriguez; Kennewick, granddaughters Sandi Rodriguez Muns, Shylah Hanson, grandsons DJ Hanson, Jace Raile and great-grandson Alex Muns. Sneezie adored her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of them all.
In addition to her family, Sneezie is survived by sisters Carole DeWeber, West Richland, Kari Hobbs, Tucson, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. She was very much loved and will be missed by all.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for Sneezie on April 24. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, 2108 W. Entiat Ave, Kennewick, WA, or the charity of your choice.
Grandma~
I am sorry that you and I didn’t have more time together, and that I never told you enough how much I love you, and care for you. I wish I could have told you more. You are my only Grandma, and it’s hard to think of all the things that we can’t do anymore. No more getting yelled at to stay out of the raspberries and strawberries… : Those little things I will miss greatly about you, as well as all the fun times and memories we made together. I know you are watching all of us, and will keep me safe. I really will miss you G-ma, and wish we could have had more time to make more memories. I will miss the holidays, I will miss the only person who could talk like Donald Duck… the hugs and the kisses going out the door, just the little things you did as my Grandma. No one can ever replace you. Thank you for all the things you did for me. Birthdays, Graduation… supporting me through my music, and I know you will continue to watch over me, and support me still. Don’t worry about Grandpa… all of us girls are keeping our eye on him…! I love you Grandma, say hello to Uncle Dan, Sheba, and Cuddles… And don’t forget to say hello every now and then! I miss you and Love you!
