Matthew David Smith, our son and brother in Christ, after a long battle with mental illness, finally met his Lord and Savior on May 4, 2004.

Matthew was a talented and loving son. Born June 20, 1971, in Portland, OR, he grew up in Winchester, VA and attended Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Art. A musician and an artist, Matthew found much peace in his artistic expression. Matthew loved children, animals and his brother, Aaron. Most of all he loved Jesus Christ as his Savior. In his last few years, he was an ambassador for Christ on the streets to anyone who would listen.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Mary Lynn Smith, Reading, PA, and David Glenn Smith, Pasco, WA, brother Aaron John Smith, Baltimore, MD, stepmother Vicki Deaver Smith, Pasco, grandmother Ruth Hull, aunts Sharon Dorlac and Wanda Cunningham, and nieces April, Teresa and Melisa.

His beautiful smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew him; his life touched so many. Our deepest thanks to all who, through prayers and assistance, supported Matthew during these difficult years.
