Timothy Nathaniel Shaw

EINAN’S FUNERAL HOME Timothy Tim Shaw, 49, of West Richland, WA, died Thursday, October 7, 2004, at his home. He was born August 11, 1955, in Denver, Colorado and lived in the Tri-Cities 37 years.

Tim played Little League baseball and was a Cub Scout and a Sea Explorer Scout. He attended Richland High School, class of ’73. He also attended Western Baptist College, Salem, OR and Hutchinson Technical College, Hutchinson, MN.

Tim was employed ten years in nuclear construction, thirteen years with Hanford contractors, and had the honor and privilege of completing his career with eight years at Nuvotec. Tim was always a doer. He enjoyed volunteering for the tough jobs when no one else would, and he always got the job done. His tenacity made him successful wherever he worked. Most recently Tim served as President of Technical Resources International, Inc. where his vision and persistence were instrumental in the strategic acquisition of ImageWorks and RTS, and the development of a new line of Guibot computer software products. Tim was both a team player and a leader. He understood how important it was to enable people to be successful so every one could contribute to the success of the company. Despite the unrelenting progression of the ALS disease, Tim continued to be an upbeat and positive inspiration to all his co-workers and everyone he came into contact with. In February 2004 Tim was awarded the first Nuvotec annual Tim Shaw Inspiration Award.

Tim felt a strong connection to the community and had a strong sense of civic duty. He freely donated his time to campaign for the March of Dimes and to participate in fund raising activities to support the community. As co-chairman of the Mid-Columbia Small Business Council, Tim spent many hours cultivating the development of new small businesses in an effort to ensure a future-oriented and progressive work environment for the community. In December 2001 Tim became involved in the Hospice program after attending its first annual fundraising breakfast. After he was diagnosed with ALS in 2002, Tim became a spokesperson for the Hospice program where he focused his energy on laying the groundwork for plans for a new Rose Vista Hospice Center. Tim not only inspired a significant outpouring of goodwill and donations but also stimulated the creation of a new vision for Hospice in the Tri-Cities. In addition he was a member of Central United Protestant Church. He took part in Jail Bail for Muscular Dystrophy fundraising, served as a facilitator for a Contact Helpline Training Class.

Tim’s outgoing and honest personality allowed him to make lifelong friends quickly. This was probably his greatest gift. People who knew Tim thought of him as a loyal and trusted friend, some one they could confide in and some one who had their best interest in mind. He set an example for all of us with his courage, dignity, and sense of humor in the face of extreme adversity. Tim is a friend to many and will be missed forever.

Tim is survived by his daughter, Rose Shaw; parents, Carl and Marian Shaw; brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Teresa Shaw; sister and brother-in-law, Twila and Steve Colby; nephews, Justin Colby, Paul Gordon and Andrew Shaw; nieces, Elizabeth and Suzanne Shaw; ex-wife, Olga Shaw and stepdaughter, Renee Tuttle.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2004, in the chapel at Central United Protestant Church. Please join the family for refreshments immediately following the service.

Contributions in Tim’s memory may be made to the Tim Shaw Endowment, Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat Ave. Kennewick, WA 99336.
