Obituary for HAROLD B. DE VINE Oct 12, 1910 - Nov. 21, 2004
Harold Bert De Vine was born October 12, 1910 in Quincy, Washington to Lura Ketchum De Vine and Bert E. De Vine. Only 2 pounds at birth, Harold beat the odds and lived a full and wonderful 94 years until his passing on November 21, 2004. Harold married J. Olive Hodges in 1932 in Ellensburg. Their family grew to include Sharleen, Terry, Marilyn, Mickey, and Richard. They were married over 31 years until Olive's passing on November 22, 1963. Harold spent most of his working life as a Fireman at the Hanford Site 1943-1971. After retirement, Harold and his second wife, Roberta Sherwood De Vine, spent five years in Copalis Beach. Then they relocated to Manson, Washington where they enjoyed occasional games of bridge, bowling, gardening, as well as fishing and boating on Lake Chelan. They moved back to the Tri-Cities in 2000, and lived in Kennewick until Roberta's passing on March 1, 2001. At the age of 70, Harold began using the internet to manage his investments and watch the stock market, and enjoyed staying in touch with friends and family via email. While he wasn't really a great fisherman, he sure loved it! Even after trying his hand at Alaska fishing, his favorite spots remained the rivers and lakes of Washington. In his later years, he spent just a tad more time on the boat than in his garden, another true love from a very early age. Over many years, he enjoyed rock hunting and develop his lapidary skills, making many nice pieces of jewelry. Harold was also a terrific dancer from the Charlston to the waltz, and everything between and had a special appreciation of the Big Bands of his era. Harold had a great sense of humor and inspired laughter in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Olive, second wife Roberta, infant son Mickey, son Richard 0., daughter Sharleen Holcomb, sister Loris De Vine, and grandson Michael T.
