  • My best memory of Uncle Jim is from my childhood, I must have been under 10 at that time. It was a Holiday, I don’t remember which one. The James F. Geigers and the Robert Uncle Bob Cookie Geigers were at Aunt Bess’s house in Bucyrus.

My Dad Uncle Bob Cookie to James’s kids, at that time, was expounding eagerly and earnestly about something to Uncle Jim, while he Bob was pouring a glass of milk for one of the kids. Daddy kept pouring the milk and talking, and Uncle Jim was grinning from ear to ear. The milk reached the top of the glass and began to flow over the rim. I looked at Uncle Jim, I was very worried, and he winked at me and put his finger to his lips. The milk continued to flow across the table and onto the floor.

Uncle Jim shouted with laughter when Daddy finally realized what he was doing.

As a young child, I found this immensely amusing, Uncle Jim had been naughty and had gotten away with it!

I’m sure Grandmother and Aunt Bess scolded Jim; but this was one of my most precious childhood memories.

Love you forever, Jim, you’re home with Jackie now.

  • Jim had enough room in that huge heart of his that even the resident *Canine’s* on his

Meals On Wheels route were rewarded with a personalized

    greeting…

And, not only did he and Jackie take a homeless “Doxie”

    into their group–bringing it

to three–but also helped me place several others.

His wisdom and wit will be

missed by all of us… My condolences to the Family!

  • As former Director of the Meals on Wheels program I knew Jim and Jackie as both participants in the program and home-delivered meal volunteers. Jim was the most dedicated husband I have ever met. He was an inspiration to all of the volunteers and to me. His love for Jackie spilled over into his volunteer delivery of meals to people who needed a helping hand. His care and concern was also evidenced by his attending state and local meetings, always with Jackie by the hand, to testify in behalf of people who needed extra help to be able to remain in their own homes as long as possible. Jim’s warm and direct comments helped those in charge to understand the need and make positive changes. My admiration and respect for Jim knows no bounds.

My condolences to the family. I know, as I hope they do, that Jim and Jackie are together now and happy again.

  • Jim Geiger is one of the kindest, sweetest, and caring men I have ever met. When my dear friends Nancy & Eric McElroy returned to help out with the ranch when Jackie became ill, I got to know Mr. Geiger and was lucky enough to become one of his friends.

Actually we all kind of considered him as family. I loved seeing him and his wonderfully ever present smile. Like all great men he will live on in the hearts of all who knew & loved him.

He was so kind and once fixed a family heirloom clock that I have. Not only did he fix this for me he also researched the clock, when and where it was made and who had made it. He slipped all this information onto a note inside the clock. I was so touched by this and that note will remain in the clock to be passed on from generation to generation.

I will also never forget the “2nd” Thanksgiving my family and Nancy’s family spent with him a couple of years ago. It was much more fun than the one we had just had, which was due to the presence of Jim! He showed us many of his watches and clocks and the history behind them. It was fascinating!!

I also remember 2 summers ago, we deceided to have “high” tea one afternoon. Of course we had to have Mr. Geiger join us! There we were, Nancy and her girls, me and mine, and Mr. Geiger. I really think Mr. Geiger had more fun than all of us. It would not have been the same without him!

I have so many fond memories of him. Another thing that stands out in my mind was the tremendous love he had for his wife. Truly, I have never seen anyone love someone as much as he did her. He took such wonderful care of her throughout her illness. I don’t know many people who could do what he did and always with such love.It was an amazing testament of the love he had for her.

He was a wonderful man and will be missed by us all. I feel blessed to have known him and I am especially thankful that my children got to know him, for in Mr. Geiger, they saw an example of greatness. We will always remember him. I am comforted by the thought that he and Jackie are together again and spent their 50th wedding anniversary together.

    We will miss him greatly.

  • I am glad I was able to attend Mr. Geiger’s memorial Service. I will always remember him as an honest, down-to-earth man with a smile on his face. He made so many things possible for so many people. One of the smaller aspects of his life that was not mentioned in his obituary was his brief stint as a gentleman farmer in the Kiona-Benton area. It was on this land that I enjoyed my high school years with his son Jack at Honest John’s Used Car Lot our name for the collection of used/junk/parts cars that Jack and Jim collected through the years. Jim’s vast knowledge of cars and their history was passed on to Jack, who was able to share it with me, and for this, I thank Jim.
