Steven Charles Cantrell
Steven Charles Cantrell, age 54; Beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and loyal friend; lost his 18 month battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 10th at 3:15pm at the University of Washingtons Medical Center in Seattle. Steven was born in Yakima, WA to George and Julia Cantrell and became a life long resident of Richland. He graduated from Columbia High school, and married Sue Thomas of Benton City. Steven soon entered the U S Marine Corps as an Aviation Electrician, graduating Honor Man from A-school, and worked on Cobra attack helicopters. After his tour of duty, he earned Associates Degrees as an Instrument Technician and Machinist from Columbia Basin College while maintaining a 4.0 grade point. He went on to work for Hanford Engineering Development Lab HEDL, the Westinghouse Hanford Co. WHC, Fast Flux Test Facility FFTF, and received promotion to engineer while working for the Non Destructive Testing Lab NDT. He became an expert electronics troubleshooter and software engineer. Steven held many recognitions and distinctions including the coveted Westinghouse Signature Award for engineering excellence, and the honor of being one of the patent holders for his contributions in the development of the ESTeem wireless modem. A tireless dynamo of a man, Steven prided himself in his personal physical accomplishments; runner of no less than 19 marathons, avid biker who trekked from Richland to Seattle, and a distance swimmer who liked to traverse the Columbias currents, he lived by a belief that nearly anything can be accomplished with drive and tenacity. But of all his achievements it will be his faith and generosity of spirit that will endure in the memory of those who knew and loved him. He was completely loyal to those he called friend and devoted to his family, both of blood and his church. When not participating in his childrens or grandchildrens activities, he would spend countless hours in his churchs building projects and outreaches. Steven is survived by; wife of 34 yrs, Susanne, son Christopher, daughters Kerri and Jessica Danz, grandchildren Sarah and Quinn Danz, mother Julia, brothers James and Donald, sisters Jolene Lee and Catherine Kerwick. Steven, you are loved and sorely missed, be at peace as we do not despair, for we know you have joined your precious savior Jesus Christ to start Gods work anew in the great beyond.
