EINAN’S FUNERAL HOME

Gerald E. ''Jerry'' Steen

Our sweet Jerry died peacefully at home on December 10, 2004, two days short of his 58th birthday.

He was born in Portland, OR on December 12th, 1946. While an infant, he moved with his parents, Joyce and Frances Steen, to Richland, where he lived his life. He was a master automotive mechanic and a Quality Control/ Quality Assurance engineer in the nuclear industry.

For all of his adult life, Jerry was deeply interested in building, flying, modifying, and discussing the construction of remote control model airplanes. His favorites are a 1:8 scale Piper Cub and a GeeBee. At every opportunity, he could be found either in his shop working on the planes or at the field flying them. He was also a dedicated auto mechanic; he built and loved his '70 Chev pickup.

He leaves behind his wife Judith; daughter Dianna Steen with granddaughters Jade and Zoey and grandsons Joey and Zane; son Justin and wife Heidi with grandson Mason and granddaughter Makiah; his brother Mike, who has been his lifelong friend and confidant; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; two stepsons - Christian and Kwinn Wilson and their families; in-laws and their families Jerry and Dorothy Christensen, Claire Christensen, Keith & Pat Christensen, David Christensen, Jill & Marlin Ames, Ralph & Linda Christensen, Ruth & David Martin, Jim & Vickie Christensen, Dan & Crystal Christensen, and Van Christensen.

Jerry will spend this Christmas with his infant daughter Erin, who died in 1970, his parents, his Uncle Don, and several Bomber friends who have recently made the journey.

His desire was to be cremated; his wish will be honored.

Oh, my sweetheart, our lives were forever changed you came to us, and will be lonely without your sweet presence. We know that you rest in the arms of the angels, but how we wish you could have remained longer here with us!

A memorial service will be held in the Richland LDS Stake Center at 1720 Thayer Dr. on Wednesday, December 15th At 1pm. Please feel free to bring anecdotes and experiences to share with the rest of us. A luncheon for friends and family will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 557 Roy Street Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109-4219.

  • Dear Judy and family… Words cant begin to express how much we will miss Jerry and already do!!! Everytime we look out the door I expect to hear him starting up his truck and peeling out of the driveway!!! Jerry knew what being a great nieghbor was all about. All you had to do was holler and he was always willing to help any way he could. We will miss gabbing with him and his crazy sense of humor, his teasing, and his caring ways!!! Good memories will help you get through the rough times. We are simply across the street if you need us. Love The Tames

  • My sympathy and condolances to all of the family. I had very fond memories of Jerry and Mike and walking past their house on Goethals, going to and from Chief Jo. That was the early 60’s and he was such a character.

There are lots of prayers out there to pull strength from. Don’t hesitate to ask for assistance when it is needed. When we don’t ask, we take away the joy of helping from those that can.

God bless and heal you and yours.

  • I just saw this, and am so very sorry to hear about Jerry’s passing. I know Jerry in high school…Jerry, Bill Didway and I used to eat lunch together. The last time I saw Jerry, was when he and Bill joined the navy…many years ago. I still have so many memories of Jerry…he helped make HS so much more fun.

My thoughts and prayers are with Jerry and his family.

  • Jerry will be deeply missed by all of us. Jerry made a serious impact on Lane, and is deeply missed by him already. Lane would visit Jerry regularly, & happened by Friday evening. His heart sunk, as did ours, with the fear that we’d lost our dear friend. Then it was confirmed in the Sunday paper. Jerry was a wonderful person and a blessing to many. We know he is in a better place. May the lord Jesus Christ bless you, keep you, and comfort you, as you deal with the loss of precious Jerry, and all the rest of your lives. Sincerely and God Bless You, The Cottrell’s

  • I remember many fun times with Jerry and Mike while we were growing up. Our parents showed dogs and we spent many weekends at dog shows. I remember the day Jerry ate dog food on a dare. He actually said it was good. My sympathy to you Judy and also to Mike and Jerry’s children. He was a wonderful person and I am glad I was fortunate to know him. My prayers are with you all.

  • Judy, Mike, our thoughts and prayers go out to you all, wife, brother and families during this time of remembering. There were a lot of good times growing up. Time is so short on this earth. It has not quite been a year sence we lost our son. With the support of frends and family you will make it. May God be with you all.
