Michael ”Big Mike” Lortie
05/25/1960 — 03/10/2005
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Vallejo, California
Michael ”Big Mike” Lortie
Michael W. Big Mike Lortie was suddenly taken from us on March 10, 2005, at his home in Richland, WA. He was born to George and Lorna Lortie on May 25, 1960 in Vallejo, CA. Mike was the youngest of three children.
The young family, due to George working as a union electrician, traveled the Western states following construction opportunities.
In 1966 the family settled in Wenatchee, WA. As a youngster, Mike was active in scouting, baseball, football and hockey. Mike attended Wenatchee schools, graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1978. From a young age he was known as the Class Clown. Mike never outgrew his sense of humor or the chance to crack a joke, clean or otherwise. As a young man, Mike was a member of the Order of Demolay, a Masonic Organization.
Mike married his best friend and sweetheart, Tamera Browning, on May 30, 1986 in Wenatchee.
The light of her Dads eye, Amanda Marie, joined the family on May 4, 1990.
Mike was well known in the construction industry as the Truss Stud. He excelled in the design and sales of roof trusses, having worked at Cascade Truss in Yakima, Evergreen Truss in Deer Park, Tri-City Truss, which later became Lumbermens, and for the past four years at Truss Systems in Sunnyside. Mike was a trusted friend to his customers, and they followed him as he changed companies.
Mikes joys in life were his loving wife Tammie and daughter Mandi, family gatherings, fishing, motocross racing, snowmobiling, and following his favorite Nascar driver, Rusty Wallace. Mike enjoyed the game of golf and annually played in a father/son golf tournament with his Dad for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, of the family home; parents George and Lorna Lortie, Wenatchee; sister Sue Mickelson Mike, E. Wenatchee; brother Bob Lortie Marcia, E. Wenatchee; nephew Adam Dawson, Wenatchee; niece Alicia Dawson, Wenatchee; Tammies parents Dick and Dee Lawless, Deer Park and Loren and Pat Browning of George; brother-in-law Brian Browning, Parker, AZ.; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike was loved and will be missed for his unending jokes, dedication to family, friends, and career; but most of all the carefree, unique spirit he shared with others each and every day.
This is not goodbye, just a mere passing of time before we unite again as family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Einans Funeral Home, Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund in Mandi Lorties name at any Sterling Savings Bank.
Being the oldest, and only girl of the three of us, I will always think of you – my dearest Brother – as the one who gave me the gift to love unconditionally. I learned early on that on great days, or during challenging times, family accepts, loves, and supports us just as we are. We always expected the unexpected” from you.
I’m glad you lived your life as the free spirited, fun-loving guy that you were from the moment you were born. When I join you in Heaven I’ll be sure to cover up any “oopses” you might make, just as I did when we were growing up. What Dad and Mom didn’t know, didn’t hurt you – right?
I know in my heart that you are golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, and making wisecracks in Heaven. I’m sure God has a sense of humor and is getting lots of chuckles watching over you.
Love always, Sue
Mike,
I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to say good’bye. You have been the best brother-in-law and just a great person. I am happy and lucky I got the opportunity to know you, even though the time was short.
Love you, Marcia
I only met Mike a few times through business but anytime anyone talked of “Big Mike” it was with a smile on their face. He a great joy for life and shared it with everyone.
I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort you both during this difficult time
My deepest sympathies to you, Mandi and Tammie. I will always remember Mike with some of the fondest memories, as will everyone who ever met him. Much love, Michelle
I remember the first time I met Mike and his brother BOB. It was at a family bar-b-cue. I went out front to get a breath of fresh air and Mike approached me and put his arm around my shoulder, gave me a squeeze and said.
“If you hurt my sister I’ll kill ya!” Then Mike just smiled and walked away.
Well It’s been five years and Sue and I are still very happy together.
Mike.. buddy.. you will be missed, your sense of humor, you always had a joke to tell and family loyalty are what set you apart from the rest…
Tammie and Mandie our thought are with you at this time.
I remember mike best from the old day when shaft went with him every where, the trans amm and his wild spirit.
To Big Mike “Truss Stud”,
Even though I’ve known you for 12 years or so, it was awesome to work with you and get to know you better the last 2 1/2 years. There was never a dull moment with you there. You are and will be missed so much. No one can take your place. And I’ll personally never let anyone forget
“IF HE CAN’T TRUSS IT, YOU CAN STICK IT!”
You are still in my heart.
I miss you, Lortie!
Your Friend, Paul
And to Tammie, Mandi and the rest of the family,
My deepest condolences on losing Big Mike. He made an impact on every single person he ever met. You will be in my prayers. And never forget that everything happens for a reason. We may not know, see or understand it right now, but it’s there. We’ll see him again someday, he’s doing better than we are right now.
God Bless You All! Paul

I was lucky enough to spend a great deal of time with Mike throughout high school and right after high school. We traveled around the country, taking in more than our fair share of motocross races and a lot of goofing off along the way. I feel very fortunate to have had this time with him and to be able to call him my friend. My very best wishes to his family.
I am a co-worker of brother, Bob. It is never easy to lose a loved one – at any age. Mike was so young but if you believe, you know there was a reason for his passing. Let the good memories sustain you. They really do help. I am so sorry.
Our sympathy to Tammie, Mandi and the rest of Mike’s beloved family and friends. My heart is sadden, but not broken. It takes a friend like Mike, and he is my friend indeed, to teach me the meaning of true friendship. Mike and I have shared a lot in our travels thought life, often on different paths. I know that we will meet again with our paths joining, God willing, he will have cold one waiting for me beyound the Pearly Gates.
Dear Tami and family, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss, which is “our” loss. It is a pair of shoes that God can’t refill. I have nothing but good memories of Mike, and allways will. He was a one of a kind. Just flat out FUN to be around.

So sorry to hear about Mike, our thoughts are with you.
I saw him make the sun come out in the rain just with a smile at his friends, and I never had anyone make me laugh as hard and long as Mike did, he knew just which funny bone to hit. Although I didn’t know him as well as some,I do know, the world lost a special loving man. I am so very sorry for his Families and Friends loss.
Smile thru your tears
You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of Yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on living.
My addition to this is Remember his favorite saying……Tammy definitely will understand this. With Love and Sympathy, Laura
To the family of one of the funniest man I ever crossed paths with. I will forever remember the times we laughed and played together. What a great loss. I so sorry to hear about the loss of such a great friend. Lives get so busy and we all lose touch, it is time to reconnect with people we cherish in our lives. Take care…you are all in my thoughts and in my heart.

“God gives us love, someone to love he lends us” All of my deepest sympathies to your family.
Dear Tammie and Family:
Although we hadn’t seen Mike in years, he will be missed. Mike made friends for life. Time and distance didn’t diminish the heart felt fondness for a guy whose claim to fame was a great sense of humor and a face splitting grin.
Tammie, Mandi and Lortie Family:
I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful guy. I have known Mike since I was 16 and even though I had lost touch with him, when I saw him recently at his class reunion it was like “old times”.
Mike always had a great sense of humor and had a special way of making everyone laugh. The memory of Mike that sticks out in mind is the time Mike FINALLY gave in and let me drive is awesome mustang one night. Unfortunately I backed it into the neighbors mailboxes. I was scared to death to tell him, but he just laughed. I know that when Mike and all of his friends meet again he will give us all a good laugh 😮
God bless you all!
Mike you rocked! You made me laugh and chuckle every time are paths crossed. You will be missed and missed and never forgotten.
Dear Tammy, We were so sorry to hear of your lose. Even though we haven’t seen you in years, you’ve always been in our thoughts. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and yours. Jim & Pat
To everybody who has reached out to my mom and I in the last 10 days, I just want to say Thank You! It’s been great to hear what my dad did for each of you and how much he will be missed. I enjoyed hearing everyones stories about “the good ol days”. My dad will be missed by many but kept alive in the hearts of all who loved him
“THEY say there is a reason
THEY say that time will heal,
BUT neither time nor reason will change the way we feel.
FOR no one knows the heartache
THAT lies behind our smiles,
NO one knows how many times
WE have broken down and cried,
WE want to tell you something
SO there won’t be any doubt,
YOU are wonderful to think of…but so hard to live without.”
love always,
BUTTCRACK
To my best friend, I will love and miss you always. You made me see the humor in everything. My heart will always hold you for-ever.
I don’t know quite what to say, I’ve gathered my thoughts, but still it all makes no sense. He was taken too soon.
I will always treasure the time that I was fortunate enough to spend with my Uncle. I was able to go fishing with Mike and his good friend “Coach” and I will never forget that experience. Also, just before he was taken and before I left to Germany, I had pizza and beer at Abby’s with he and his two friends Mike and I had both worked at that pizza restaurant as high school students and loved to go whenever we could, Dusty’s was also a place Mike, Tammie and I frequented when he came to visit. I also spent every single Christmas, Thanksgiving, and innumerable other family get-togethers in his good company. Yet I still feel like I’ve been robbed.
He was and always will be someone I look up to – not only due to his stature and moral character – and I will never stop looking up so I know he’s watching over us from above.
When I first met Mike, nearly 10 yrs ago, I remember feeling incredibly intimidated by him. He was always telling jokes or making some kind of comment that could embarass me without a doubt. I was so shy and quiet that I didn’t know how to take him…I think that made it even more fun for him. As my friendship with Tammie continued to grow, Mike accepted me into his life as part of his family. I came to develop an indescribable admiration and respect for him…I looked up to him as another “Big Brother” to me. He could make me laugh even on my worst day and had the most genuine concern for others. I know Mike had an impact on the lives of so many people he met over the years, but I don’t know that he ever realized just how much he influenced mine. “Mike, you made me see life with a new perspective and taught me how to laugh again. Thank you! You will never be forgotten.” To Tammie and Mandi…I love you both so much, and I cannot express enough my sympathies for your loss. Hold on tight to each other, love and take care of each other, and keep Mike close to your hearts for he will continue to watch over the two of you. I love you always and forever…
I’am a co-worker with Bob. May the fond memories of Big Mike help you through these trying times.
