Robert David Banks
Robert D. Banks, 85, of Kenmore, WA, passed away May 30, 2005 in Kenmore. He was born August 1, 1919 in Mahanoy City, PA.
Robert lived in the Tri-Cities from 1947-1984 before moving to Ocean Shores. He retired from UNC as a nuclear reactor operator and enjoyed spending those later years with his wife. He loved to golf and dig clams.
He joined the CCC in Ohio and helped establish the Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico before serving in the Army during World War II. He sustained a sniper wound in the face as a result of combat in the Pacific Islands. Later he joined the VFW and American Legion and was a member of both the Central United Protestant Church and the Elks Lodge.
Robert is survived by son, Robert L. Banks of Benton City; daughters Pamela Worrell and husband Lynn of Kirkland and Penny Sorenson of Woodinville, WA; grandchildren Chris, Jon, Kim and Kelli; great-grandchildren Caden and Tyler; brother John Banks of Kennewick; sister Edna Haverty of Wilmington, NC.
He was preceded in death by wife Lois E. Banks; parents William and Carrie Banks; brothers Bill, Erv, George and Edward; sisters Helen and Margaret.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 4:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland. Mr. Banks was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made in Roberts name to Disabled Veterans of America.
