From Richland, WA, US | Born in Glen Elder, Kansas
Katherine ”Kay” M. Lamb
Katherine Kay Lamb passed away June 1, 2005 at Hospice House in Kennewick. Services will be held in All Saints Episcopal Church at 1322 Kimball Ave. in Richland at 2:00 pm Monday the sixth of June.
Kay was born Nov. 12, 1912, in Glen Elder, Kansas, to Orville McCoy and Emma Margreiter. She had no siblings; however a large family of aunts and uncles lovingly doted over her. In 1928, her mother died leaving Katherine at 16 years of age to grow up quickly.
Orville, a farmer, and Katherine moved within the year to more fertile soil in Twin Falls, ID. There Kay graduated from high school in 1930.
She continued her education at WSC where her uncle and close friend was Dean of Veterinary Medicine. She received her degree in education. She taught in Prescott, WA her first year. The following year she went to Albion. Here she met Ray Lamb, who was also teaching there. It was a long cold winter a great setting for a warm courtship. Ray and Kay were married in 1938 in Twin Falls. They returned to eastern Washington to pursue their careers and have a family.
The Lambs moved to Richland in 1948 where Ray opened John Ball School. Kay started teaching fourth grade at Lewis and Clark School in 1949, after her youngest child started kindergarten. She became a favorite of hundreds of children now adults for 21 years, retiring in 1971.
Over the years, her teaching partners and dear friends grew to be many. They took care of each other and have been like an extended family.
In addition to her friends, Kay leaves her son, Jon Mac Lamb and his wife Linda of Richland; daughter Kathy Brown and her husband Larry of West Linn, OR; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
Mac and Linda,
My prayers are with you and your family. I miss Katherine coming into Albertsons. She always liked to come to my checkstand, she was such a joy. She was a very sweet lady and was such a positive person. I enjoyed our visits each week in the store.
I am unable to make the funeral, but my thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Dear Mac and Kathy,
I read in the Sandstorm about your mother and wanted to send you our sympathy. Alice and I started our teaching careers in Richland at Lewis and Clark back in 1955 and have known your mother since then. She was a special person to us. We enjoyed visiting with her and other Lewis and Clark Teachers at the Chuck Wagon luncheons when we came to visit after moving to Pullman in 1966. Treasure your memories of her.
Love, Rex and Alice Davis
You are in our thoughts and prayers, Kathy. Please extend our condolences to your entire family.
I have fond memories of seeing your mother at a reunion not so long ago.
Sincerely,
Betty
Dear Kathy and Larry,
I am sad at Kay’s passing, but was so glad to have known her. My best memory of her was working with her when we reorganized the library at our church, All Saints. I was very impressed with her knowledge of books, and enjoyed her love of the written word. She was a joy to be around, always a smile and a pleasant word. I am sorry at her leaving, she will be truly missed. The world needs more people like Kay.
My prayers and sympathy go with you at this time, may God bless and keep you and Kay in his loving arms.
With many warm memories of your dear Mom during our Lewis & Clark days, I send along my sincere sympathy and love.
Your Mother’s beautiful spirit and love will live on forever in your hearts. Cherished memories are such a special gift ~ may you find comfort and joy in remembering.
Love,
Jeanie Hutchins Simon
