Bonnie Helen Mahoney Carlisle 1925 – 2005

Bonnie Carlisle was born to William Eugene and Jennie May Mahoney on March 5, 1925 in North Platte, Nebraska. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on October 15, 2005 at the age of 80.

After graduating from high school in Albion, Idaho in 1943, she attended University of Utah and received her Registered Nursing credentials from St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City in 1946. In Salt Lake City she wed her life-long love and constant companion Johnny George Carlisle on June 16, 1946. They solemnized their vows in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in April of 1958.

Being preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Jennie Mahoney, sister, Betty Lou Mahoney, brother, Jay Pierre Mahoney, and her daughter Terri Lee Carlisle, Bonnie is survived by her loving husband and dearest friend Johnny, her children David Carlisle of Hawaii, Doug Carlisle of Utah and Shirley Myers of Minnesota, niece, Marjorie Praegitzer, nephews, Warren and Bill Mahoney, as well as 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie loved her Church and spent many years in its service. She served as Relief Society President, as a Temple worker and in many other callings. But she took the greatest interest in the lives of her husband, children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. We will always remember the care she took to let each know that she loved and cherished us, and the joy and happiness she brought to our lives.

Bonnie died as she had lived, with dignity and strength. We are at peace to know that she is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father surrounded by her loved ones.

“In the end God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not meant to be,

So He put his arms around her, and whispered ‘Come with Me’. With tearful eyes we watched her weaken, and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.”

Services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 1720 Thayer Drive, Richland, Washington. Graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening, October 18, 2005, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Einan’s Funeral Home. There will also be a viewing Wednesday morning from 9:00-9:50 AM at the LDS Stake Center.

  • I have enjoyed knowing Sister Carlisle for many years, since 1974 to be the best of my recollection. She was the mom of Doug and the wife of John, both men that I have high regard for.
