Edna Faye Stephens
EDNA FAYE STEPHENS 7/23/16 - 12/8/05 Edna Stephens, 89, of Richland, passed away on Thursday evening, December 8th, at Kadlec Hospital, following surgery for a broken hip. She was born on July 23rd, 1916, to Inez and Grove New in Norcatur, Kansas. She married Vernon Dwight Stephens on June 17th, 1934, during ''Depression and Dust Bowl Days'', and had many stories to tell about the hard times they survived together. When our nation found itself involved in World War II, Edna, and young son, Ronald, followed Dwight from one military base to another until he was shipped out, for duty in the Navy in the South Pacific. After Dwights return from the war effort, they lived in Walla Walla, Washington, Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Hood River, Oregon over a short span of years, eventually settling in the Tri-Cities in the early 1950's, where they made their home and raised their family. Except for two very short periods of time when she worked as a retail clerk, Ednas life was dedicated to homemaking and being a stay-at-home mom. Following Dwights death, Edna moved to Alterra Wynwood Retirement Center in Richland, where she resided until the time of her death. Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, her brother, Gerald New, and two granddaughters, Tamara Stephens McDermott and Karen Hedlund Stephens. She is survived by daughters, Vicki Savage and husband, Ron, of Richland; Pam Doughty and husband, Alan, of Benton City; Ronald Stephens and wife, Ila, of Pasco; sister, Cleora Stephens and husband, Carl, of Kennewick; grandson, Daniel Stephens, of Kennewick; granddaughter, Ariel Doughty, of Benton City; two great-granddaughters, Shauna Stephens and Amy Stephens, of Kennewick; special cousin, Elsie Miller, of Walla Walla, plus many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be from 1-5 on Sunday afternoon, December 11 at Einans Funeral Home on the Richland Bypass Highway. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 12, at 11 AM, at Einans. The memorial service will be conducted by Henry Walker, a longtime friend of Ednas and former preacher of the Kennewick Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, and may be mailed, c/o Anne Sampson, District Manager, P. O. Box 375, Richland, Washington, 99352 or made online at http://www.diabetes.org.www.diabetes.org. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend, Edna will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. All our lives are richer for having known her. A mothers heart is like a rose A bouquet of love unfurled; A blessing to her family, A fragrance to the world.
Ron, Vicki, Pam and families,
Our sympathies our with you all and your families at the rather sudden passing of your mother and our great and great-great aunt. I can image how much she’ll be missed by all of you.
Denise, Rylie and I were blessed to see her again at The Old Country Buffet a few short weeks ago. I was over at my folk’s place last night talking about Aunt Edna and our ties back to grandma Stephens; it’s amazing how many of our families ended up and stayed in this area. In our discussions dad said he is sure that Aunt Edna knows Christ as her personal savior…she is at this moment singing with the King. Oh what a blessing! The pain of her loss here is only temporary for all who have also put their faith in Christ!! We can rest assured, without a doubt, that one day soon we’ll see her again. I bless God for each of you and pray that you’ll find comfort in Him.
