From West, Richland, WA, US | Born in Tylertown, Mississippi

Steven Joseph Ginn

Steven Joseph Ginn, 57, born on Aug. 29, 1948, passed away on Dec. 20, 2005 at the Hospice House in Kennewick. He had his wife, brother, and nephew and his family by his side. Steve fought a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Steve was born in Tylertown, Mississippi and lived there until he went to New Orleans for his first job. After leaving there Steve moved to job shopping, working as a mechanical designer and engineer. In this field he moved around quite a bit and was known to make friends everywhere he went, many he still stayed in touch with. His last job was working as a start-up test engineer and design engineer for Washington Group International. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge in West Richland.

Steve first moved to Washington in 1976, saying he arrived in the Tri-Cities during a dust storm and couldn’t see why anyone would want to live here. Who was to know that years later he would call this his home?

Steve joined the Army, serving in the Mississippi National Guard. All of his active duty was luckily spent in the US.

Steve loved to hunt and fish. He was so proud a few years ago when he got his first elk ever. There were many a fish that were caught through the years, and even some birds and deer shot, but nothing came close to that elk.

Steve is survived by his wife Melissa Herron; mother Etheland Ginn of Tylertown, MS; brothers Sedgie, Jr. of West Richland and Rev. Bendon Dot of Brookhaven, MS; sister Mary Ann Williams of Tylertown, MS. He also leaves nieces Maria and Melissa and their families; nephews Tré son Brenden, Marc, Eric and Braxton; and numerous friends around the nation. He was preceded in death by his father Sedgie, Sr.

Memorial services will be Monday, December 26, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Einan’s Funeral Home, Richland. Following the services there will be a gathering at the Moose Lodge in West Richland. Inurnment will be in Tylertown, MS.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Steve’s memory to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House. I wish to thank all of Steve’s doctors, especially Dr. Weeks and the staff at the Tri-Cities Cancer Center. Also thank you to the nurses and staff of the Hospice House for the excellent care he received.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm Upon your face, the rains fall soft Upon your fields, and until We meet again... May God hold you In the palm of his hand.

  • We would like to offer our deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one. We had the pleasure of knowing Steve for the past few years. Had the opportunity to enjoy his company at the poker table at our home, at the pool table at Steve Roode’s home, and at several local establishments over the past couple of years. Steve was a man’s man. A rough and tumble kinda guy with a big heart, pleasant demeanor, and generous nature. Last time I had the pleasure of seeing Steve was approximately four weeks ago when he let my son Geoffrey & I borrow his heavy duty flatbed trailer to go rescue our broken down trailer over in Benton City. Steve proudly introduced me to his Nephew, Tre and wife during that visit. He also repeated the following several times: “Every meal is a feast. Every day is a holiday”.

We will miss Steve. May you find comfort in knowing that he is now resting in eternal peace.

  • The thoughts and prayers of the entire Wood family are with Melissa and all of Steve’s family.I had the occasion to be in the Kadlec ICU with my father the same night Steve was admitted back in September. Steve was in the room next to my dad and I spent the night with my dad and also visited with Steve. It was great to talk with him during his stay at the hospital and I felt he apprectated the talks and vists also. Steve was a valuable asset in our office, bringing his years of experience and great personality to our projects. We’ll always treasure our time in knowing and working with him.

  • Eshain and I wish to extend our sympathies and sorrow for the loss of Steve. Although we only met Steve a couple of years ago, in a short amount of time he made such a great impression on us, and became a very close friend. Steve was never one to complain, and even during the final months of his struggle with his illness, he stayed strong and maintained his wonderful sense of humor. My fondest memories of Steve will always be him beating our pants at poker, beating our pants at pool, and all of us laughing and enjoying every single minute of it… together. Steve was a strong, kind, and respectful human being. Eshain and I will miss him greatly. He is now at peace, without pain, and smiling down on us all.

  • Our thoughts and prayers with you at this tough time. I worked with Steve at Spent Fuel and WGI. He was a pleasure to work with, competent, hard working, and always pleasant. He was the first to volunteer for the tough assignments and work through the technical and personnel issues. Off the job, he was a very giving person, offering to help when he could. I’ll miss him and his smile.

  • I worked with Steve at K-Basins and never forgot him. He was a brave man and an example to us all. “For all things born in truth must die, and out of death in truth comes life. And we all shall be for all time, we all for ever and ever.”
