Arlene went into the family business of cosmetology and was co-owner of the oldest family owned beauty salon in Florida, the New Florida Beauty Salon, until retiring.

At the age of five years, she was recognized as the youngest water skier in the nation and was a member of the Lakeland Yacht Club Aqua Brats. She held local, state and regional water skiing titles and was a past performer at Cypress Gardens and the Wisconsin Dells summer ski show. She became the first female lifeguard in the City of Lakeland.

She was a member of Country Christian Center in Pasco, the National Businesswoman’s Association, and was past president of the Florida Trapshooting Association. She was a volunteer with juvenile offenders and actively counseled troubled youth.

Arlene was very proud of her children’s achievements - her daughter’s achievement as a concert violinist, her two sons excelling in soccer and baseball.

She is survived by her husband, Irv Toback, daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Stephens, all of Pasco; sons, Michael Register, Marc and daughter-in-law, Sunday Register, all of Lakeland, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Tim Martin of Greenville, SC; one granddaughter and three grandsons; and a brother, Robert Surgeon of Lakeland, FL.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Morgan Register.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Country Christian Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Country Christian School, 5500 W. Sagemoor, Pasco, WA 99301.

  • Kim, John, Irv & Family, My deepest condolences on your loss. Kim, didn’t know your mom personally but I can guess what kind of person she was based on how great you are. We will keep her & all of you in our prayers during these tough times. You all did a great job taking care of her during her battle and you were there for her when she left us. She is now in a better place and I believe that she and God will bless all of you for what you did for her.

  • God bless you, Arlene, you were a sparkling light in the world, taking your goals by the tail and giving everything you had to your dreams. You gave all your love to your wonderful family, and I know they must all be a gift to the world, because I know that Kim is. I think probably the Heavenly Father has you to work already and your angel wings look beautiful, which makes me smile. Enjoy heaven my friend. You are greatly missed here, but I know I will see you again some day.

God bless you all, and may your memories support you during this time.
