David Walter Stegherr

David Walter Stegherr, age 60, previously of Putnam, IL, passed away at home in Kennewick, WA on April 11, 2006. Dave, having struggled with cancer for the last two years, decided to celebrate Easter this year with Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Dave was born March 3, 1946 to Walter and Florence Stegherr in St. Clair, Michigan. He was the oldest of two children.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn and their two children. Son, Ian Davis Stegherr and daughter-in-law Ashley Michelle of Skokie, IL. Daughter Elise Anne Stegherr of Spokane Valley, WA. His sister Linda J. Johnson and husband Chester of Greenville, S.C. Mother-in-law, Rose Irene Tucker of Kalispell, Mt. Sister-in-law Norma J. McClure and husband Charles L. McClure of West Glacier, Mt. Dave also has left behind 4 nephews and 3 nieces, Aunts and Uncles, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

Waiting to welcome him home were his parents Walter C. Stegherr and Florence Stegherr- Buchhorn along with his Father-in-law Eugene C. Tucker.

Dave grew up part of a farm family in rural Marine City, Michigan. As a young boy on the farm, he developed a love of the outdoors and planting things. This love grew into a lifelong hobby of vegetable gardening, planting trees and woodworking. Dave also had a knack with mechanical things, which he turned into a career with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1970. His career allowed him to also live in Grand Rapids and Traverse City, MI and Putnam, IL.

Being fortunate enough to live, work and play all over the country Dave had a close network of family and friends everywhere. Despite his illness, Dave remained active in the areas that were significant to him. He was able to go on several trips with family and return to old haunts to visit lifelong friends. His priorities were his faith, family, and friends and the riches he accumulated were their closeness, love, and support.

Memorial Praise service for David Stegherr will be Sunday, April 23, 2006, 3:00pm @ Richland Nazarene Church, 2500 Jericho Rd. Richland, WA. 99352

  • Dave was a great friend to all that came into his life. His earnest desire to personally know God in every part of his life was a challenge we all experienced. God has asked Dave to suffer much in this life but God has been faithful to Dave by taking him to heaven at a time when most would be planning for retirement on earth. Oh what joy and freedom he is experiencing now.

We were privileged to be part of Dave and Lynn’s wedding and to watch Ian and Elise growing up with our children in their early years. I wish time allowed us to be with you physically at the Memorial Service to share our fondest memories of Dave at Michigan Tech and Traverse City. Let us know when you are traveling in Michigan, or better yet come and spend some time with us. The weather is great for the next 5 months.

Our prayers are our Lynn, Ian, Elsie and sister Linda and we praise the God that is good all of the time.

  • Dearest Lynn, Ian, Ashley, and Elise,

We have many fond memories of your husband and dad, Dave, from our days as your neighbors on Johnston St. in Grand Rapids. We were always so grateful to have wonderful Christian neighbors who loved the Lord. Your dad/husband was a quiet, compassionate friend who was so proud of his family.

We love you all and are praying for you during this difficult time. While our hearts are sad for your loss, we rejoice in your dad’s/husband’s freedom from suffering. This is just a “so long for now.” We look forward to the day when we will see him again!

Much love to all of you!
