Frances Pauline Quinn O’Keefe
Devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on April 20th. She was 83.
Frances Pauline Quinn was the first of four children born to Agnes Axelsen Quinn and Frank J. Quinn June 29th, 1922 in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Denver and graduated cum laude with a BS in Chemistry from Loretta Heights College. After graduation she was a medical laboratory technologist at hospitals in Baltimore, Kansas City and Denver. While in college, she met David Patrick O'Keefe, a student and then graduate of Colorado School of Mines. They dated for seven years. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 25, her future looked dim but David vowed to care for her forever. The MS went into remission.
In 1946, she and David P. O'Keefe were married in Denver and in 1948 Susan, her first of six children was born. In 1950 they moved to the Tri-Cities, WA where her husband David worked as a metallurgical engineer at Hanford. Children David, Jim, Maggi and Joan were born in Richland before Frances diagnosed herself with breast cancer while she was pregnant with her sixth child. Seeking superior medical care, David moved his young family to Fort Worth, Texas where Jan was born in 1956 and Frances was hospitalized.
She survived stage III breast cancer and the family returned to Richland in 1960. A fervent volunteer, Frances was always available to assist with her children's school activities and was active with the Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David who died suddenly in 1981. Their love and happiness is an inspiration today to her children as an example of a couple who got it right. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her inner strength, intelligent guidance and her unparalleled love and devotion to her family.
Frances is survived by her six children, Susan Tavenner, Bellevue; David O'Keefe, Renton; Jim O'Keefe, Pasco; Maggi Gruber, Bainbridge Island; Joan Malone, Renton; Jan Jensen, Richland; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Monday, April 24th, at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland, WA. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 3:30 pm, Tuesday, April 25th, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pasco, WA, with graveside to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland.
Memorial contributions may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 192 Nickerson St. Ste. 100, Seattle, WA 98109.
I’ll always cherish the memories of sharing moments of uncontrollable laughter in the most awkward places, of the unbelievable strength you had through your different health crises, and how you were so incredibly strong and focused the day Dad died, to keep talking about how good it was to have had him as our father and husband. I’ll miss the stories from your childhood about your adventures with your brothers and sister growing up in Denver. The attention to keep our grammar correct is something I appreciate and reinforced with my own children. I’ll miss you.
The single word to describe my grandmother is sweet. She always had a smile on her face, she loved life and her family. I am so thankful that she was nearby while I was growing up letting me play dress up in her clothes, cut her hair eek! and teach me creep a mousey. With love, Kirstin
I love you mother. I will miss you every day.
I know you never really knew me, but thank you for bringing your beautiful daughter Joan into this world so that she could become part of my world, for this I will always love you. I will miss your smiling face and you asking me “who are you”. Love you and miss you, Kevin
Begin each day with a fresh start & leave tomorrow for the future.
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to you all. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. love the white family
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to each family member. I am sorry for your loss. I know you will dearly miss her. I will always remember Fran with laughter and a smile, driving Joan, Jan, Maggi and I in “Old Yeller”-the station wagon with buttons on the dashboard.:
I miss you Grandma. I will always remember you for your warmth and kindness. In all of my memories you are smiling. I love you grandma.

I only met you the one time, but I can see in Joan, that you were a wonderful and loving mother. Your heart, spirit and soul will live on in those who you loved and those who loved you. May peace be with you.
Love Gina
Mother,
Thank you for teaching me how to be a loving parent. Your patience, intelligent guidance, constant positive attitude and strong moral character sank in. Your and Dad’s obvious love for each other and joy to be together are so rare. Do you know how many people want what you had? I love you and miss you terribly.
All my love,
Maggi Number 4
Dear Mother,
You were simply the best. You were an excellent example. I could always talk to to and you were always sensible. You always made me laugh. I truly think I was somehow blessed with the best parents in the world. I will still talk to you and hope you will hear me. Love you, Susan
I’ll miss you grandma-
I’ll never forget your cheerful disposition and positive outlook! It will always be an inspiration to me.
