Karl Richard Rummel, Sr.
10/07/1943 — 04/07/2006
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Bolton, Ohio
Karl Richard Rummel, Sr.
Karl crossed over while embraced by his loving family at home on April 7, 2006 at age 62.
He was born October 7, 1943 in Bolton, Ohio, resided in Alliance, Ohio and graduated from Alliance High School in 1962. He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1964 and served as a military policeman at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington. While on leave, Karl's destiny in life began when he met his soul mate, Carole A. Rummel Metcalf, at Sun Lakes while camping. Soon after he was stationed at Hickam A.F.B. in Hawaii where he was sent to Korea in response to the capturing of the USS Pueblo. Karl received his honorary discharge in June 1968 and then resided in Richland, Washington to raise their sons. Karl also served as a reserve officer with the City of Richland for a portion of his time. He retired in July 1999 from Lockheed Martin as a computer information specialist.
Karl's favorite joys in life were hanging out with the family, playing with his grandchildren, camping in the mountains, playing cards with his sister and brother, working in the back yard on the pond, debating politics, fox news, Mariners, Seahawks and gardening. He spent the best days of his life harmonized by his wife's loving eyes, compassion and love for life. She was all he needed to smile. They were married for 40 blessed years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Thelma, Brother Herb, Son Karl Jr, and father in-law Lee Metcalf.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate Carole, son Norman Lee, his wife Janel and their two children Dylan and Madison, granddaughter Michelle Speer and husband Brad, sister Ruby Hinga and husband Bob, brother Walt, sister Wanda, mother in-law Vera and nieces and nephews.
We love you Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Grandpa, Uncle, Honey, Bro, Bompa, Rum, #12, and friend.
A private graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, Washington. Family is asking in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Tri-Cities Hospice.
I remember well, Karl, and all the years of service he gave to the City of Richland as a Police Reserve Officer. As an officer, who enjoyed the company, companionship and support of the reserves when they came in to give of their time, I remember Karl’s contagious smile and laugh. Karl was always watching “my back” and I his while on a call or traffic stop. When I was transferred to the Detective Division, Karl assisted me on several cases with the same level of enthusiasm and committment. I retired in 1989 and lost touch with a lot of the officers and reservists.
I’m sure Karl is serving God in a special capacity in Heaven.
I’m sorry to hear of his physical passing but I still have the memories of the past.

To The Rummel Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. You are wonderful neighbors and Karl was a wonderful human being, who helped us in our time of need when JC passed away by helping clean the yard and sidewalk. He is in a better place now, free from pain and always know in your heart, you will see him again. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.
Your Neighbors,

I worked with Karl at FFTF back in the mid seventies, his sense of humor, dedication to his work, and love for his family were all truly remarkable. He also made the best pickled egg I ever ate. Karl was a treasure, and I know he will be missed greatly by the family he loved so much.
Carole, I was so sorry to hear of your loss! I sometimes think back fondly to our days working at Peoples Bank and have wondered how you are doing. You have a beautiful family and I hope they will be a comfort to you now.
God bless you.

To the Rummel Family:
We send you our love and prayers during this time of loss. Though it’s been quite a while since we’ve visited; I think the last time was when Carole & Karl came to see me at Kadlec after the birth of our son Andrew in March of 1999, we still think of you often. Don and I were talking about some of the visits we made to the Rummel home; Karl had shown us his salt water fish tank he had set up in the livingroom with alot of really neat looking fish. But something we’ll never forget is how much we laughed during some our get togethers. Karl’s sense of humor was fun to be around. And Carole just enhanced that humor. They truly are soul mates. I Connie worked with Carole in the banking field years ago; so that’s how I got to know Karl. Don met him after we got married back in 1988. Though we weren’t constantly in touch with each other we will always have fond memories of Karl. May God Bless and comfort you!

To my dear cousin Carole and her family:
Karl was the best fit for you Carole, and I am so heartbroken knowing that he had to leave so “early” in life.
I will always remember his great sense of humor. I will always remember the adoring glances he gave you, and I will always remember the joy he took in babysitting the grandkids.
Love you Cuz!
