Robert Clarence Blewett
Robert Clarence Blewett, 89, of West Richland, Washington, passed away April 16, 2006 in Kennewick. He was born February 20, 1917 in Butte, Montana to Clarence and Georgia Wynecoup Blewett.
Bob attended grade school in Whitehall, Montana and Ogden, Utah, high school in Butte, Montana, and the Montana School of Mines in Butte, Montana. He served in the Army in 1945-1946 in Texas as Military Policeman, earning his sharpshooter rifle commendation August 24, 1945. Bob worked for the Montana Highway Patrol from 1940-1962, later serving 18 years with the Gross Vehicular Weight Department.
He was a man of many talents and interests. He was fast draw champion of Montana; a member and past Grand Master of Masonic Lodge Pondera #80 of Conrad, Montana; a big game hunter of deer, elk and pheasant; a bonsai instructor and gardener; an avid square dancer with his wife Erna. Bob and Erna traveled in a remodeled Greyhound bus for five years, enjoying dancing, ocean fishing the company of their family and sightseeing from Canada to Mexico.
Bob was a man you would like to know as a friend; a highway patrolman who would listen to your excuses and let you go with a warning; a hunter who would let you have the first shot, but God help you if you missed, because he would not. He was a father and husband who was honest, strong and true to his beliefs and enjoyed his large family.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Erna Adler Blewett of West Richland; son Bryant C. Blewett and Ellen Marshall of McLeod, MT and Alameda, CA; stepson Ellsworth Collins and wife Sue of West Richland, WA; stepdaughter Maureen Froehlich and husband David of Missoula, MT; brother Don Blewett and wife Annie of San Carlos, CA; stepsister Dell Bornstein of Missoula, MT; six grandchildren and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 1, 2006 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1322 Kimball Ave., Richland, WA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
Being a highway patrolman in Montana from 1970 through 1990, I got to know Bob quite well as I would stop at the scales and visit. He was a good man with a great sense of humor. I truly enjoyed him.
And, I had “his badge”, #165.
He told me to “treat it well”. And I think I did.
Yep, I remember a lot of laughs shared with Bob.
And I learned from him.
You will be missed Bob.
Dear Erna,
We were sorry to read of your loss. What a nice obituary, it told so many things we didn’t know about him. We really never got to know either of you.
I don’t know if you ever knew how much it meant to us when you both came to see us after our daughter, Terri was killed. There are many things I have forgotten, but that wasn’t one of them. We thank you again and wish we were closer so we could be with all of you during your loss. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you
God Bless,
Wally & Earleen
Bob, a wonderful man, was our highway patrolman when I grew up in the early 50’s in Conrad. He let me go the only time he ever pulled me over with a stern warning. He impressed me so much that I later became a Montana Highway Patrolman for 28 and a half years due to his early inspiration.
