Delbert Edward Johnson

Delbert E Johnson left his earthly home May 2, 2006. He was born Nov. 14, 1923 in Walla Walla, Washington moving to Richland in 1952. He was a salesman for the greatest part of his working years, starting with the Booknook in Walla Walla, from there he was instrumental in setting up Shields books and Stationary in Richland even laying the tile and building the shelves and cabinets, subsequently he was the initial manager. He worked for JK Gill, Crown Hall mark, Snyder Carceluis and Brutzmans. He retired after a stroke in Feb 2000. Special thanks to the Brutzman family for their out standing support.

Delbert was a member of the Elks club and at one time managed the restaurant and bar for the Elks at West Richland golf club. He had many interests and hobbies in his lifetime including serving as President of three rivers Mineralogy Society during his interest in rock hunting. He loved cooking, golfing, woodworking, building remote control planes, fishing rods, hooking rugs, playing pool, was excellent in ping-pong and dabbled in oil painting.

Our favorite family memories are his sense of humor, his charm and charisma, and his complete honesty. The expression we often heard was “ It’ll feel better when it quits hurting”.

He is survived by his three sons and their wives: Rick and Judy, Ken and Lori, and Gary and Linda. His grandchildren Wendi Damerval, Scott Johnson, Stacy Fairchild, Kent Johnson, Michelle Gire, Jeremiah Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Angela Johnson, Allison Johnson, Nikki Goodlander, Joe Glasser, E.J Johnson, Chris Johnson and Steven Johnson. He had 19 great grandchildren.

Delbert was preceded in death by his wife Doris, grandson Jeremiah Johnson and Foster daughter Virgina Bagner.

Delbert was our friend and he will be missed.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Resthaven Cemetery, 700 Williams in Richland at 12:00 noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
