Edward Thomas Tobin
Edward Thomas Tobin, age 95, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2006 at Chaplaincy Hospice in Kennewick, WA, after a brief illness. Born October 18, 1910 in Idaho Falls, ID, he was the second of eleven children of Lillian May Ross and John Thomas Tobin. A natural athlete, Ed excelled in HS football and track, attended U of I, worked with the CCC's, was a Sgt. in Idaho Nat'l Guard, belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge, and played semi-pro baseball for the IF Merchants. He was married to Edith Thompson for 21 years, had a son and daughter, and after divorcing he remained single.
His working life included Chemical Depots at Hermiston, OR; Kaiser shipyards in Vancouver, WA; Lockheed in Burbank, CA; Tobin Dry Cleaners in Idaho Falls, ID; parts manager in Lewiston, ID; Boeing in Seattle, WA; and custodial work in Boise, ID, where he retired.
Ed has lived independently in Richland for the past 19 years and was involved with the Senior Association and the local CCC's. Dancing with the ladies at the many Senior dances was his favorite pastime. Lawrence Welk was his favorite show. He loved history of the Oregon Trail, Lewis & Clark and the Railroads.
Ed will be remembered fondly by friends and family for his wit, sense of humor, and ability to tell a good story.
Ed is survived by his son Lynn Tobin, wife Mary Beth of Lewiston, ID; his daughter Darlene Mowery, husband Barry Mowery of Benton City; his grandson Mike Tobin; granddaughter Debbie Briscoe, husband Brad and great-grandson Chandler; granddaughter Kimberly Haynes-Peterson, husband Robert and great-grandson Ross; step grandchildren James, Todd, Matt, and Cindy Mowery. He is also survived by his three brothers, Harold, Bob and Ross Tobin and sister Dorothy Mott. Ed is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gordon, Donald, Tom, Quentin and sisters Lillian and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, at 12:00 pm at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland, with graveside service following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be 5-8 Friday and 8-12 Saturday.
