John ”Jack” Joseph Keating
01/17/1938 — 09/18/2006
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Montrose, South Dakota
John ”Jack” Joseph Keating
Jack Keating passed away at Hospice House at the Chaplaincy on September 18, 2006 with lymphoma. He was born on January 17, 1938 on his family farm in Montrose, South Dakota. He earned his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University in 1968. Jack joined the Atomic Energy Commission, Idaho Operations Office that year and in 1973 served as Reactor Engineer for the FFTF Project. He continued as Assistant Director for the FFTF Project Office after moving to Richland, WA where he remained with his family for 32 years.
After serving as Department of Energy Assistant Manager for Safety, Quality, Security & Technical Support from 1987-1994, Jack retired from DOE in 1994. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandy; his four children: son Scott Anabel, daughter Debra David; sons John and Peter Joy; 5 grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, Jeremiah, Megan & Harrison; brother Dennis Keating, sister Joan Even, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Matt and Marie Keating and brother Patrick.
Jack was a loving husband and father who devoted his time to supporting each and every one of his family members. He loved spending time with his adored grandchildren and will be most remembered for his hearty hugs, quick wit and gentle loving nature. Retirement offered Jack the privilege of traveling to Ireland with his wife as he began a 10-year genealogy book about his family. Jack enjoyed tending his wine grapes and fruit trees, playing piano, and attending Dixieland jazz festivals with Sandy. Many people whose lives he touched profoundly will dearly miss him.
Visitation with viewing will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. at Einans Funeral Home, 915 Bypass Highway, Richland. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 22, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Central United Protestant Church, located at 1124 Stevens Drive, Richland.
The Keating family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and caregivers at Kadlec Medical Center & Hospice House for all their love and compassion shown during Jacks stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House, 2108 Entiat Avenue, Kennewick, WA 99336.
I was always impressed by Jack’s gentleness and his total dedication to each and every member of his family.
While attending Sandy and Jack’s anniversary celebration a few years ago I was moved to see how much his children loved their parents. What a great memory. Both he and Sandy enjoyed their lives together.I loved Jack too, and was so happy that he and Sandy visited here a few months ago.He was one sweet guy and I send all my love and sympathies to the family.
Jack’s passing leaves a cultural, intellectual and familial void that he once filled.
Those who knew him are aware that he made our world a better place and for that we are grateful.
Blue skies,
Sam Korn
Dear Aunt Sandy, Scott, Debby, John, Peter and families, I was so sad to hear about Uncle Jack. What a wonderful, giving man. I have so many great memories of him from the fun Keating reunions–he truly loved life and his family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. With love, Kelli
We treasure the times we had together brief though they were. We share great admiration for Jack and his love of Christ and the way he let that shine through his life. May the God of all Peace and Love comfort you and stengthen you now and in the days ahead.
Debby,
Sorry to hear about your loss. My Dad spoke highly of your Father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Know that Jack’s love and dedication to ALL of his family has always touched our hearts and will continue to touch us in the future. We certainly will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Aunt Sandy, Scott, Debby, Peter and John
We are so sorry and sad for your loss. My memories of Uncle Jack will always be his soft spoken voice and gentle laugh. He could often be seen “behind” the viewfinder of his camera capturing those wonderful family memories we all treasure and will for years to come. We were so blessed to get to spend some time with him in June. The world has lost another “kind and gentle man” and he will be missed.

For those that don’t know me, I am Juan Carlos Garcia Rodriguez, Anabel Keatings son Scotts wife although I never meet Mr. John Jack Joseph Keating in person; I had the great pleasure to meet his son Scott during his last vacation trip. When I heard the news of his passing away, I can not deny a feeling of sadness, due to the small link I have through out my mother and Scott. I would like to send my condolences to his family and friends. Now Mr. Jack Keating is besides god, resting and watching after all of as next to the angels.
Peace in his grave:
My prayers go out to all of you.

Thank you for the trip to Memphis, TN. I will always remember stopping at EVERY state sign to get a picture, coming and going. Going to New Orleans and being kicked out of the Dixieland band performance for a red light on the tape recorder. And hanging out at the farm in S.D. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you always. God Bless.
Sandy-Will always remember you and Jack taking Bobby w/your family to nationals. I wish to turn the clock back to those times. Jack was so easy to talk to. I will say a prayer for all of you.
