Lorraine C. Riggs

Mother died September 15, 2006 at my home, surrounded by love. She was born July 7, 1911 in Lafayette, Indiana to Roy and Lillian Cheltz, and there she spent her childhood and school years. She met and married Daddy, Lawrence Riggs, while he was attending Purdue in Lafayette. They had over 73 years together.

Prior to the war, she and Daddy owned and operated an appliance store in Sullivan, Indiana, and she even found time to win a purple ribbon at the local fair for her sewing talents. After the start of the war Daddy went to work for Dupont and they relocated to Richland, Washington in 1944, living in the same “B” house to this day.

She and Daddy were active members of C.U.P., enjoying their Koinonian group, never missing a Sunday in six years. She treasured the young adults and followed their careers over the years, still hearing from them.

In her later years she enjoyed her little family get-togethers and doing puzzles, beating Daddy at cards every afternoon, having Sunday brunch with friends. Mother’s “job” was taking care of Daddy – she did a pretty good job as he survives her at 95.

I will miss her knowledge. She could always answer any questions I had. She lived and died a gracious lady.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Riggs; daughter, Nancy R. Lawrence; grandsons Paul L. Beebe and Michael L. Lawrence; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Central United Protestant Church, Richland. Viewing will be 1:00-5:00 PM Friday the 22nd at Einan’s Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
