Tyler Andrew Luedtke

06/19/2001 — 10/19/2006

From Kennewick, WA, US | Born in Richland, Washington

Tyler Andrew Luedtke

Tyler Andrew Luedtke, 5, of Kennewick was born June 19, 2001 in Richland, WA and passed away October 19, 2006 in Kennewick, WA. He lived in Richland 1 year before moving to Kennewick.

Tyler attended preschool for 1 year at Rainbow Montessori in Kennewick. He had just started Kindergarten at Canyon View Elementary in Kennewick. He had talked of riding the bus to kindergarten since he was 3. His first day at Canyon View Elementary was his greatest achievement.

Tyler was an artist. He drew pictures with amazing detail and enjoyed drawing and coloring pictures. For Tyler, it was year round Halloween as you’d frequently find him dressing up in one of his favorite costumes – Spiderman, Ninja Turtles or Power Rangers. You could always count on Tyler for a good sword fight.

He had the opportunity to be Washington State Patrol Chief for a day.

He was the first grandchild on both sides of the family. He was always very happy and energetic. He was always very outgoing and made friends very easily. In his short 5 ½ years, Tyler had more friends than most people have in a lifetime. Tyler had a wonderful sense of humor and constantly made people around him laugh and smile.

Tyler touched the lives of hundreds of people, even many people who never had a chance to meet him personally. Though he spent the majority of his life battling cancer, he rarely complained. Looking at Tyler you would never know he was sick; he brought so much joy to people’s lives.

People that were blessed to have known Tyler can say with all honesty, their lives will be forever changed. What a blessing he was!

Tyler is survived by his parents, Heidi Ehlis and Brian Luedtke; grandmothers, Tina Rowsell-Sickenberger and Lori Ehlis; grandfathers, Tim Ehlis and Kent Luedtkke; great grandparents, Dixie Kinmark and Cliff Porter; Ron and Sharon Kinmart, Glenda Hammer, Howard and June Koppe; and great-great grandmothers, Olive Sparrow and Olive Kinmark.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd Sparrow, Kkatherine and George Ehlis, Jerry Plunkett, great uncle, Mike Ehlis, plus many aunts, uncles and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Cathedral of Joy. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland

Visitation will be at Einan’s Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 23.

Memorial contributions may be made Neuroblastoma Society or the Humane Society.

  • Sorry I didn’t get to stay

To laugh and run and play.

To be there by your side.

I am sorry that I had to die.

God sent me down to be with you,

to make your loving heart anew.

To help you look up and see

    Both God and little me.

Mommy, Daddy, I wish i could stay.

Just like I heard you pray.

But, all the angels did cry

when they told little me goodbye.

God didn’t take me cause he is mad.

He didn’t send me to make you sad.

But to give us both a chance to be a love so precious… don’t you see?

Up here no trouble do i see

and the pretty angels sing to me.

The streets of gold is where I play you’ll come here too, someday.

Until the day you join me here,

I’ll love you oh so dear.

Each breeze you feel and see,

brings love and a kiss from me.

You and your family are in my heart!!

  • Brian & Heidi,

Are thoughts and prayers are will you both through this very dark time in your life. Knowing what it is like to lose a son, we can only tell you to trust in God, let family and friends help you through this very hard time. I know someday the pain will ease and the memories will bring comfort, just as they have done with us.

I remember the birthday party we had for Tyler last year in our backyard with the big “Blue Dog” bouncey toy, and finding other little kids to come over so he would have fun. I am not sure who had more fun in the bouncey toy Dad or Tyler but it was precious. Thank you for sharing Tyler with our family he will stay in our hearts forever. We are all here for you, please remember that.

  • I remember Tyler fondly when you first arrived to the Ronald McDOnald House. We had been there for a few months with our daughter, Janaleah, and she was just 1 year older. I remember introducting Tyler’s Grandma, Lori, to another family with a child that had neuroblastoma. I can enter into your loss completely as it was 2 years ago on Saturday that our Janaleah passed away. I know we have managed due to the comfort from God and Jesus. May you all know that peace and comfort too. We truly express our condolences.

  • I knew Tyler only during the last year of his life. For the most part, I saw him when he was a guest at my house when his mother and grandmother were over in Seattle to get treatments and tests at Children’s Orthopedic Hospital. I remember him fondly as a very normal 5 year old, always wanting to engage you in conversation or games. My favorite and most heard quote: “That would be a good idea!”. My fondest memory of Tyler was a day where his grandmother, Lori, and I took him on a ferry boat ride. We walked around town and bought him pretty much whatever he wanted even though he couldn’t eat it all!. My heart goes out to all his family, who showed such love and devotion to Tyler during his short life. All of you are an inspiration to a great many people.

That was an extremely generous gift and because of it, you have changed many people’s lives forever. In doing so, you also connected people in new ways and actual friendships became stronger. Tyler’s spirit will always be with all of us because of it. Please know, too, we will remain connected and bonded to you forever. We love you!

i miss you. you were truely amazing. and i am very glad to have know you.

and your pictures you drew for me… ill always treasure them… they are so special. there isnt any words to describe it. i just miss you… everytime i see a picture of you or spiderman. my eyes water. i wrote a poem.

    “sorrow”

    sorrow is tear-drop blue

it sounds like rain, gently falling on the pavement

it tastes like baking soda and flour

it smells like dirt, fresh after rain

sorrow looks like the wind blowing leaves across the empty playground

it makes me feel as if my heart were crying.

sorrow is blue, like the bottom of the ocean

it sounds like waves crashing into the peir

it tastes like depression, a poison

    it smells like salt water

Sorrow looks like people wearing black

    it makes me feel melancoly.

Sorrow is as black as the 6 ft. hole in the ground i could fill with my tears

it sounds like sobs coming from your surrounding friends and family

it tastes like the salty tears streaming down my face

    it smells like moldy bread

Sorrow looks like a lonely best friend, red-faced and sobbing

it makes me feel as if ive lost someone very loved.

sorrow is the feeling that consumes me, now that i have lost you to THAT ENEMY.

My sister, Kim Gough and my nieces, Karlie & Britney knew Tyler and loved playing with him.I loved hearing stories of Tyler and what he liked to do. He had a spirit about him–we should all strive to enjoy life like he did!! Tyler has been in my prayers the past few years and he will continue to be as well as your family. May you find comfort, strength and love in his memories. Lynette Sali

  • Tyler, we never knew your sweet little angel face, but you are a very handsome young man, and a very brave one. I,m sure you made mommy and daddy so proud of you.

We can see you now with jesus’s school of angels dancing and singing free from the pains your sweet little self endured here on this earth for the short stay you had. What a sweet and brave boy you must have been, and how blessed mommy and daddy were for being honored with your sweetness. You truely are a graduate into his kingdom. you’re beautiful.

  • Thank you Heidi and Lori for giving your family, friends, and others the gift of Tyler…I know, I’ve said it before but in his short little life you shared him with so many people. That was an extremely generous gift and because of it, you have changed many people’s lives forever. In doing so, you also connected people in new ways and actual friendships became stronger. Tyler’s spirit will always be with all of us because of it. Please know, too, we will remain connected and bonded to you forever. We love you!

Tyler brought the hearts & prayers of many people into each of your lives as so many of us prayed for all of you during Tyler’s illness. i miss you. you were truely amazing. and i am very glad to have know you.

and your pictures you drew for me… ill always treasure them… they are so special. there isnt any words to describe it. i just miss you… everytime i see a picture of you or spiderman. my eyes water. i wrote a poem.

    “sorrow”

    sorrow is tear-drop blue

it sounds like rain, gently falling on the pavement

it tastes like baking soda and flour

it smells like dirt, fresh after rain

sorrow looks like the wind blowing leaves across the empty playground

it makes me feel as if my heart were crying.

sorrow is blue, like the bottom of the ocean

it sounds like waves crashing into the peir

it tastes like depression, a poison

    it smells like salt water

Sorrow looks like people wearing black

    it makes me feel melancoly.

Sorrow is as black as the 6 ft. hole in the ground i could fill with my tears

it sounds like sobs coming from your surrounding friends and family

it tastes like the salty tears streaming down my face

    it smells like moldy bread

Sorrow looks like a lonely best friend, red-faced and sobbing

it makes me feel as if ive lost someone very loved.

sorrow is the feeling that consumes me, now that i have lost you to THAT ENEMY.

  • Heidi and Brian,

My heart goes out to you both, arms open in condolences for your loss. All my memories revolve around him as a very healthy little boy, one with wide open eyes, ready to take on the world, and one who was never shy of taking a short nap on my shoulder. Tyler took on the world head on. He has touched many lives near and far and will always be in my heart.

  • Tyler will never be forgotten. I thank YOU for sharing him with me. Even though he was in my life for a short time, he has made a lasting impact. He always had a smile on his face and brought joy to all of us around him. I’m glad I was able to provide that “first day of kindergarten” for all of you. He showed us all that inspite of what he was dealing with that you can always find something positive in every situation.

Hugs!! We know Tyler is playing with the angels, as he will be the leader of the pack.

  • We felt that we knew Tyler even though the only time we saw him was at “Tyler’s Dance. He was having so much fun with his friends. You could feel all of the love for him at that party.

He was such a courageous little guy and we loved hearing Dixie tell us about the funny things he said and did. You will have such wonderful memories to cherish about this little angel.

Please accept our sincere sympathy and know that we pray for you.

  • Heidi and Brian,

My prayer for you is that the sharp edge of your grief is over shadowed by the warm memories of Tyler. Every memory I have of Tyler is of his dimples and big smile. He was such a cute baby with a huge gummy dimpled smile.

With all that he went through, he was still such a normal happy kid.

Tyler, God be with you till we all meet again.

  • I never had the opportunity to know Tyler personally but I remember pictures of a beautiful wide-eyed little boy. Heidi, grandmas Lori and Tina and aunt Lisa all shared his progress and setbacks with me through his illness. My heart goes out to all of the friends and family who love him so dearly and cared for him so devotedly.Tyler is playing with his friend Gabby now and is free of pain but those left behind have to learn to live without him, which leaves an enormous void in all your hearts. My prayer for your family is for God to help ease your sorrow and to hold Tyler as dear to Him as he was to you here on Earth.

  • In celebration of Tyler’s life a star has been named in the International Star Registry, “Tyler Luedtke Our Hero”. So when you cast your eyes upon the midnight sky, we will remember what a spcial gift he was and will always be.

    Tyler-

The God who made the stars, made you. He put you on this Earth at a precise time, to accomplish wonderful things. You did that and more. Our only regret is that your cousins Madison and Mackenzie never got to play with you. We will see you soon.

    Heidi & Brian,

We love you and are praying for you. If you need anything, we are here.
