02/05/1916 — 11/18/2006
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Butte, Montana
Wanda Helen Diettrich
Our dear Wanda--adored wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend--left us quietly Saturday evening.
Wanda was a valuable asset to the community, exceeding 25 years service in Kadlec Auxiliary, 50 years as a P.E.O. member, 50 years as a member of Central United Protestant Church, past president of Altrusa, member of the Mid Columbia Symphony Society, and personal coach of the Symphony conductor from 1951-1968.
She was The Girl with the Golden Voice in Junior Nordica of 1930s Seattle, when she sang her senior recital at Heck Edmunson Pavillion in 5 languages. She continued to contribute her voice to church choirs and civic choral groups in the Northwest for many years.
Her family history in food preparation and service helped her develop culinary skills which enabled her to graciously and memorably serve the Symphony Society Galas, Community Concert Artists, and all who entered her home.
She worked tirelessly supporting her husband in the day to day business of running Diettrichs Market and later, Foodlines.
She had an unparalleled gift for giving. She may be best remembered for her ability to reach out and offer support to others in need. She gave of her time and energy selflessly.
There will be a graveside service at 2 pm Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be scheduled in April at CUP church in Richland.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation Hospice of Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, Wa. 99336.
With our fondest memories, and deepest sypathy for the family. The greatest and kindest aunt a niece could ever have.
With Love Always Suzn
I would like to give the family condolences for the Mid-Columbia Symphony. Karl and Wanda had so much to do to “invent” the MCS. In fact Wanda gave us about 5 boxes of Karl’s music a few years ago. It was so wonderful to have that historic music, and many of our older musicians purchased some pieces just for memories. We still have a large photo of Karl in the office. I personally did not know him but I did know Wanda.
My sympathy,
Carma Kimball,
Mic-Columbia Symphony, Concert Manager
Dearest Auntie Wanda, you will always be in my heart and in my thoughts. I love you dearly wishing I could have seen you more often, but the miles between us and the family responsibilities didn’t always allow that. I treasure the cross-stitch magazines that you gave me, I really enjoy being able to find different projects to attempt and as I look through the magazines I remember our conversations on cross-stitching, recipes and much more. You are going to be missed so much. I love you dearly. Sherrie & Family xxxooo
