Eric Hans Einan

Eric Einan, 45, was taken from us unexpectedly on January 24, 2007.

Eric was born to Russell and Barbara Einan on December 5, 1961, in Richland, Washington. He had a wonderful childhood, growing up in the family's home on Davison Avenue with his brothers, Steve and Dave, and his sister, Linda.

He graduated from Hanford High School in 1980, and attended Washington State University for a time before returning to the Tri-Cities. Later, he studied automotive technology at Columbia Basin College, earning a degree that led him to pursue a career in the U.S. Air Force.

Eric served his country honorably for more than 20 years, rising through the ranks to become a Master Sergeant. Over the years, he was stationed at several air bases around the world, including ones in the Philippines; North Carolina; Okinawa, Japan; and most recently in Florida. He specialized in the maintenance and repair of military aircraft, particularly the C-130 Hercules. Eric made many good friends during his years in the Air Force, and was respected and liked by his colleagues and supervisors.

Eric was a gentle, caring, and trusting soul who made close friends wherever he went and kept them for life. Family was important to Eric, and he was extremely proud of his two children, Kevin and Angela, whom he loved dearly. He loved computers, animals, spending time with friends and family, reading action and fantasy books, running, working on cars, doing crossword puzzles, and listening to all kinds of music. He disliked violence, and lived his life being kind to people and animals.

He is survived by his son and daughter, Kevin and Angela Einan, of Germany; his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Teri Einan, of Kennewick; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Marc Stairet, of Pasco; his brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Martha Einan, of Richland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by many good friends, including Karl English of Pensacola, Florida, and Takashi Tomoyose of Yokohama, Japan.

Although Eric left us far too soon, we will all treasure our memories of him and the good times we shared.

Private memorial services will be held at Einan’s Funeral Home, with inurnment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

  • To Steve and his extended family,

I can only imagine the grief you must be sharing at this time of tragedy, having also just lost your father and having your own share of recent personal health issues. You are a good man, and my heart and prayers go out to you and your loved ones during this difficult time. With deepest sympathies, Linda.

  • Steve, Linda and Dave,

Hello cousins. My thoughts are with you and of happy childhood times spent running between your folks place and Pop and Grammie’s and swinging on the tree swing. Eric was always a bit shy, and quiet, but kindnest always shone through his eyes when he smiled. That’s how I’ll always think of him.

It’s hard to hear he is gone so soon, but I hope you’ll find comfort in knowing he’s sure to be welcomed home with a wonderful warm hug from Grammie. A peaceful end to an unexpected journey.

  • My deepest condolences to Eric’s family. I had the pleasure of becoming a friend of Eric’s while worked we together in Okinawa. We were saddened by the news of this senseless death of such a nice and peaceful man. May God bless him.

  • I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Eric. Although I only recently learned of Eric’s passing, he and his family will remain in my prayers. Eric was the first person I hugged after graduation at Hanford in 1980, and that’s the way I’ll always remember him. He was a warm and kind person. I miss him, although it’s been so long since I’ve seen him. Again, my warmest thoughts and sympathy to all of Eric’s family. Regards, Ron St. George Freeland, WA
