Hazel Marie Denning, age 64, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend passed away peacefully in her Richland home on March 13, 2007. She was born November 16, 1942 in Sedalia, Missouri to Alice and Davey Jones.

At age five with her parents Hazel moved to California. There, she spent most of her adolescent childhood and early adulthood until 1979 when she met the love of her life, Carlton Denning; one year later, they married. Then, in 1984, Carl and Hazel decided to head north to the Tri-City area where Richland, Washington became their home for 23 years.

Hazel loved being a homemaker; she was always busy with cooking, baking, or eating her favorite dark chocolate treats, crocheting, petting her favorite dog, Sarah, or watching T.V. ''reality'' shows. Mom loved her animals. She also enjoyed playing Bingo once a week or spending the day at the Casino playing slots and drinking her mochas. In her earlier years, she was an ardent bowler who accumulated many trophies in addition to being a league coach for children under the age of thirteen.

Hazel was very proud of her accomplishments and we were too. Last month, she was baptized. After the baptism, she said, ''I felt comfort; God put a blanket around me,'' She was at peace then. In addition to her baptism, Hazel was very proud of her 19 years of sobriety. Mom, we will always be proud of you too. The tremendous sadness felt when we all said goodbye; we have lost a very ''special'' mom. Her willingness to give and the ability to be a friend to all who knew her will never be forgotten. She was so strong and courageous in her battle with cancer. We are comforted to know her struggles have ended. She will forever be in our hearts.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Carlton Denning, and two children, Kimberly Saunders and Sarah of Richland, Washington and Lisa Dan Smallwood of Oceanside, California along with three step-children, Rick Karen Denning of Simi Valley, California; Brain Denning and Traci Bousquet of Port Hueneme, California and three grandchildren, Jonathan Ardon, Kevin Smallwood and Dalton Smallwood, all of which reside in Oceanside, California. Also four step-grandchildren, Aaron Denning and Joel Denning of Simi Valley, California; Colter Denning and Brianna Bousquet of Port Hueneme, California. She is also survived by a sister, Teri Crater and Cami of Simi Valley, California and a brother, Richard Crater from Woodland Hills, California.

Hazel was preceded in death by her mother Alice Crater, father Davey Jones, and step-child, Mark Denning. She also was preceded in death by her beloved dog ''Fritzy.''

Memorial service will be held at the Chapel in Kadlec Medical Center, 800 Swift Blvd. Richland, Washington on Sunday March 18, 2007 at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, Hazel and her family request donations may be sent in her name to the American Cancer Society or the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy.
