                        Jeanne O’Neal
05/01/1927 — 03/25/2007
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Creston, Iowa
Jeanne O’Neal
Norma Jeanne Marois ONeal was born May 1, 1927 to Clara E. White Marois and Armand Frenchy Marois of Dodge Township, Iowa, and died March 25, 2007 in Richland, Washington, just 36 days shy of her 80th birthday.
At the age of 17, during WWII gas rationing, Jeanne drove her mother and younger siblings all the way from Iowa to Washington State, where her father had taken a job with the mysterious Hanford Project. She returned alone by train to Iowa, where she worked in a jewelry store briefly after high school and waited for her hometown sweetheart, Donald LeRoy ONeal, to be discharged from the U.S. Army.
After they married, the young couple moved west to join Jeannes parents in what was to become Richland, Washington. Don worked at Hanford and Jeanne raised six children. She lived in their government B house for the next 60 years. Jeannes fondest memories were of her years as a wife and mother, going on camping trips, watching backyard fireworks, and taking long drives much like her early cross-country adventure at the age of 17.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Shirlee Marois Rickaby and Betty Jo Marois, her eldest daughter Linda Lee ONeal Delawder, and her son-in-law Robert V. Joe/Bob Delawder.
She is survived by a sister, Barbara Ann Marois Ethell; a brother, Richard Marois; daughter Donna Lee Dawn ONeal and partner Tom Binder of San Jose, California; daughter Peggy Jeanne ONeal and husband Gerald Jerry Barnes of Huntington Beach, California, and Richland; son Daniel Steven ONeal and wife Margaret and their family of San Jose, California; son Martin LeRoy ONeal and wife Nancy Parsons of Richland; daughter Sally Dawn ONeal Coates and husband Doug of Richland; daughter-in-law Melody Mae Lanman ONeal of Richland; granddaughter Kandi Ann Delawder VanLoo and husband Brent of Newbury Park, California; grandson Robert Scott Delawder and wife Tamara of Pasco; granddaughter Ariel Mae ONeal Valladeres and husband Jorge of Kennewick; granddaughter René Donali ONeal of Richland and special friend Brock Smith of Pasco; grandson Mitchell William Coates and fiancée Sarah E. Smasne of Richland; great-granddaughters and grandson Nichole Nikki and Katelyn Kati, and Conner VanLoo of Newbury Park, California; great-granddaughter MacKenzie Delawder of Pasco; and the father of her children, Donald L. ONeal of Kennewick.
Jeanne loved pets and animals of all kinds, and was happiest surrounded by images of wildlife, especially wolves. She always kept a cat or a dog, and they were an important part of her life. She enjoyed flowers and nature and spending time outdoors, especially at Mt. Rainier, which was her favorite thing about Washington State. She never really warmed up to the Tri-Cities, always threatening to move back to civilization, the Midwest.
The family wishes to thank those who were special friends to Jeanne in the last years of her life, including Beverlee Jochen, Joe Webb, Andra Frost, Joe Olsen, and Linda Harmon.
An informal memorial service will be held graveside at Richlands Sunset Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, with a reception following at her daughters home.
I’m so sorry to here that Aunt Jenne has pasted away. Wish I could have been closer to her, I know you all will miss here with all you have and I will as well. Remembering times of past she was a great Aunt and loving Mom to all of you. I will be keeping you all in my heart. Roberta Bobbi Warren Ethell.
There is now a *hollow* spot in the neighborhood–as well as in my heart–due to the passing of Jeanne M. O’Neal…
God gave us “MEMORIES” so that we might have “ROSES IN DECEMBER”… and memories I have a-plenty!
When we moved in across the street 46 years ago, come May, the O’Neal Family was among the first to welcome us and, to the best of my knowledge, there has never been harsh words nor serious disagreements between us in all of that time.
When/If other neighborhood squabbles began taking place all around her, Jeanne would simply smile and calmly go back into her house until the turmoil ceased. Which left the rest of us feeling pretty silly…
I hope she’s saving me a spot at *Heaven’s DOG Show* because we always enjoyed watching many of the Locals & Nationals together… bsj/vdw
We will miss you Jeanne….I will always remember you standing at your door or on your front porch waving hello to us whenever one of us were at Bev’s whether we were coming or going. We had good conversations over the years about your animals and your love for them. May you rest in peace and keep the home fires burning for the rest of us when our time comes! Our deepest sympathy to your family and may the good memories of your Mother keep you going. We may have just passed as ships in the night, but you touched our lives every time we saw you and your big smile. God bless you!

Jeanne, you were like another mother to me all those sweet years we were working together. I will always remember you fondly. God be with you.
to Peggy and Jerry: Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. One thing I remember so clearly from my Mom’s passing is LOVE NEVER DIES.
I want to thank you for raising such a precious daughter Peggy O’Neal. She is one of my closest friends. While we have never met, I know Father God knows our names. I pray for the O’Neal family to have the comfort of knowing you have been restored to a NEW BODY in Christ Jesus. May the Holy Spirit comfort your family with the hope of a blessed reunion in heaven as we are called HOME, one by one.
God’s Blessings,
Claudine Sanchez Steve’s Mom
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, I just got word today and wish I could be there today. Your Mom was a very special part of my young years growing up and will alway be in my thought and memories. You are all in my thought and prays today.
My deepest sympathies to the whole family. I only knew Jeanne for a few short years, but I thoroughly enjoyed her company. Not having a Mom or a Grandma of my own, she became like one to me. I will miss all her stories and will think of her every time I leave Bev’s house. She always had her front door open and would usually come out on the porch to talk when she would see me. One of her favorite things to talk about was her beautiful pine tree in the front yard and how Melody had planted it from a small stick. I only hope Silver is with her, she missed that cat so much, I am comforted in knowing Jeanne is “complete” again and in no pain. lch
With loving thoughts of a dear aunt and the love she gave her extended family. My family and I are keeping you, her family, in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Valerie
