Lucille J. Hylbak Lou died Thursday March 15, 2007 in Richland, Washington. She was born June 25, 1916 in Audubon, Iowa to Chris and Anna Thomsen.

She met her husband ‘Si’ at Iowa State University and they were married August 12, 1941 by Dr. Alvin Rogness in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa. They moved to Bremerton, Washington in 1941 where her new husband Harley ‘Si’ worked as a Marine Engineer in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II.

Lou and Si had two children, Janet and Gary. The family lived in Bremerton for five years and one year in Denver, Colorado before settling in Richland, Washington in 1947. Si then worked at Hanford for 35 years.

Lou was a legal secretary for Battelle Northwest for over 13 years and spent over three years on the Columbia Basin College Staff. She did many hours of volunteer work in the Richland Orthopedic Guild, the Lutheran Senior Center and other agencies.

In 1980 Lou and Harley retired and traveled extensively in Europe, South America, China, England, and the Scandinavian countries. Caribbean cruises were their favorite vacation trips. They also spent many winters in Palm Springs, California.

Lou is survived by her husband Harley, daughter Janet Armour and Bob Farnam of Livermore, California and son Gary Hylbak and his wife Susan of Santa Rosa, California. She is also survived by three grandchildren Jason, Ryan and Lauren and a sister Vera Jacobson of Story City, Iowa.

Her parents and brother Clifford preceded her in death.

Lou was a long time member of Richland Lutheran Church.

A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, Washington. A memorial service will be held at Richland Lutheran Church Monday, March 19, 2007 at 2:30 PM.
