Maurice C. Lambert
Maurice C Lambert passed away peacefully at the age of 88, Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Kadlec Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Roosevelt, Utah, in 1918, where he spent a happy childhood with his two brothers, Theron and Wayne. Maurice left home at age 14 where he bached with his older brother Theron in Provo, Utah. There he worked and put himself through high school and college while participating in many extra-curricular activities. He enjoyed playing the piano in the dance band, photography, journalism and participating in plays while studying his science major, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Maurice married his sweetheart, Phyllis Butler, on June 9, 1942, and then returned to civil service with the Naval shipyard in Valejo, CA. Maurice went on to receive his Master's of Science while continuing his education in Valejo, CA, where their first son, Kerrick, was born, and then in Corvalis, OR where their second son, Valkair, was born. He moved his small family to Richland, WA in 1948, where their three daughters Deirdre, Nyla and Brinna were born.
Maurice worked in the Hanford area as a research chemist for 34 years, where he made many significant contributions in his field. Maurice was invited to speak at many scientific conventions and was published internationally for his scientific contributions.
Maurice was a devoted husband and father. He was a man of great faith and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many callings throughout his life. He lived a life of service. Maurice had a great love of music, played the piano and organ beautifully. He helped Helen Madson purchase and install the pipe organ in the LDS Thayer chapel. He also enjoyed golf, kayaking and had a life-long passion for learning. He had many interests, including nutrition, civic affairs, politics and business.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his parents, Robert and Winnie Lambert, and his brother, Theron. He is survived by brother Wayne Lambert, his sister-in-law Verl Lambert, and by his son and daughter-in-law Kerrick and Linda Lambert; son and daughter-in-law Valkair and Judy Lambert; daughter Deirdre Lambert; daughter and son-in-law Nyla and Paul Bergam; daughter Brinna Andrus, and fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Maurice was always refined, kind and gentle and always ready to help anyone in need. All who knew him appreciated the twinkle in his eye, his charm and quick sense of humor. He was highly respected and deeply loved by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the LDS Thayer Stake Center, Richland, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday the 7th 6:00-8:00 PM at Einans Funeral Home, Richland.
Nyla,
A note to send you my condolences upon the passing of your father. I was just signing onto Einan’s site to check and see if they had posted my father Art’s memorial when I saw your father’s memorial, and read that both Maurice and Tom’s mom Ruth had passed away very near the time we also celebrated dad’s passing in Port Orchard. I know how hard it is for those of us left, but both of those men knew exactly where they were going, and Ruth Bielein was assurred a spot in heaven years ago by all the love and caring she shared with her children and friends. We were lucky kids to have such great parents.
I had just flown out west with Juli and my girls to see dad in December. We were returning from a few years living abroad, and I wanted to make sure the girls saw their granparents and the rest of the family soon after returning. As dad was almost 79, I asked him about his thoughts on mortality. He told me that he had made his peace with himself, and made his peace with his God, and after such a great life was just happy to wake up every day.
With both our parents now passed on, we have to be that same pillar for our children. I don’t know if I can do as good a job as my dad or Maurice did in that role, but I had some great role models to prepare me, and so did you.
My best regards and love to you across the miles and years,
Steve Huntington

I first got acquainted with Maurice when I started work at Battelle in 1969. Maurice assisted with the analysis of some of our samples so that our project could continue and be successful. I appreciated his friendship and mentoring at that point and we have continued to have a friendship with him and his family since those early days. More recently Maurice was one of our Home Teachers and we enjoyed his sharing of experiences both as a young man, as a scientist, and as a fellow church member. He will be long remembered. We wish to express our sympathy to his family and are sorry that we will not be able to attend his viewing or funeral because of our missionary service in Salt Lake.
