Georgetta Vivian Vallentine

''To everything there is a season...''

Georgetta Vivian Vallentine was born 22 February 1918 in Berwyn, Nebraska to Elva Gier and Walter Pierce. She peacefully passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on Palm Sunday, 01 April 2007 in Kennewick, Washington at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House where she had been a resident since January.

Georgetta spent most of her childhood with her grandparents, Martha and Steven Gier, in Seneca, NE where she graduated from High School. She delighted in remembering riding ''old Billy'', her horse, to and from school and to town to sell cream. She married Spencer J. Vallentine in July 1937; they lived and raised their four children in Seneca, Ravenna and Alliance, Nebraska where Spencer was employed by the railroad. Five years ago she moved to LaQuinta, CA to live with daughter Roberta. In January of this year Georgetta moved to Richland, WA where daughter Jacki and family live. She was fortunate to be able to move into the Hospice House at that time.

Georgetta worked at the Alliance National Bank for many years, later retiring from Western National Bank in Casper, WY before returning to Alliance. She was an active member of St. Mathews Episcopal Church, where she served as president of the guild for several years. She attended St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, CA for the five years she lived there and since moving to Richland in January, Georgetta attended All Saints Episcopal Church each Sunday with her grandchildren. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, contributed her time to RSVP, Alliance Triad, and Prairie Haven Hospice.

Georgetta, a devoted mother and grandmother, always said that the times that made her happiest were when there were children in the house.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three infant children, her former husband Spencer, sister Roberta Phipps, nephew Rick Phipps, brothers-in-law Dean Petersen and William Saum, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include son Nick Vallentine and wife Claudia, Jacki Yardley and husband Kent, Steve Vallentine and wife Barbara, and Roberta BJ Connery and husband Lee. Georgetta also leaves six beloved grandchildren: Chris Yardley and wife Michelle, Amy Yardley and husband Franz Stiegemeier, Jim Vallentine Nick and wife Michele, Elizabeth DeFrance Nick and husband Adam, Mark Kreuger Steve, and Marci HomeSteve and husband Graham. Great grandchildren include Brian and Eric Yardley Chris, Spencer Stiegemeier Amy, Sophia DeFrance Elizabeth, Jack, Genna, and CJ Vallentine Jim, Joshua, Brandon, and Rece Krueger Mark, and Libby and Noah Home Marci. She also leaves behind sisters Belva Hanna and husband Bob, Sylvia Petersen, Opal Saum, brother-in-law Richard Phipps and very special friends, Vicky and Craig Johnsen, whom she called her ''adopted'' children.

Georgetta was a voracious reader and especially liked mysteries. She read the entire Bible during her stay at the Hospice House. She loved music and sang with the Swinging Seniors NE and The Golden Tones LaQuinta,CA. Many hours were spent embroidering tea towels for family and friends.

According to her wishes, Georgetta was cremated; no local services were held. Her remains will be inurned at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Alliance, where a service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Georgetta's memory to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House 2108 Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336

  • M is for the many gifts she gave me;

    O means only that she’s growing old;

    T is for the tears she shed to guide me;

    H is for her heart of purest gold;

    E is for her eyes with love light gleaming;

    R means right and right she’ll always be.

    Put them altogether they spell MOTHER – a word that means the world to me.

    I love and miss you Mom.

  • Our sympathy goes out to all of you. Roberta’s mom thought all of her high AHS high school friends were crazy, I’m sure, but we have all turned out ok. She kind of seemed embarrased by some of the things we did! Fond memories! Cindy

  • I just wanted to wish you all my sincere condolences. Many of my fondest memories of Aunt Georgetta were at Easter with everyone visiting at the ranch. Her shrimp salad is still one of my all time favorites.
