Melvin Coleman McAffee

Melvin Coleman McAffee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 25, 2007 at his home in West Richland.

Melvin was born on October 10, 1921 at his home in Darlington, ID to Albert and Phemia McAffee. Melvin was the oldest of 7 children. After graduation from Mackey High School, he attended college in Pocatello, ID at Idaho State. From there he moved to Los Angeles and built airplanes for Lockheed.

Melvin served a mission for the L.D.S. church in California. After his mission, he served in the army during World War II. During this time he loved playing the trombone in the United States Army band.

Between his mission and serving his country he met a beautiful nurse named Delma Cordon, from Driggs, ID. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple May 1st, 1945. After the war they purchased a farm in Darlington, ID where three of their children were born. In 1958 they moved to the Columbia Basin Project where they soon had their fourth child.

Melvin lived his life doing what he loved to do: raising crops, cattle, and his children. After 50 plus years of hard work in Idaho and Washington, on close to 500 acres of land, . Melvin left the farm in the responsible hands of Steve Price.

At that time Melvin and Delma retired to West Richland. They made many good friends there and enjoyed their friendships. Melvin was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints and was in the first branch presidency held in Mesa, WA.

His parents, brother Ken and two infant granddaughters preceded Melvin in death.

Melvin is survived by his wife Delma C. McAffee, son Ralph Ann of Cedar City, UT, daughter Kola Will Robison of Pasco, son Allan Jan of Cedar City, UT, daughter Audrey Rod Nelson of Pasco, 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brothers Clayton, John, and Merlin; and sisters Amy Rice and Althea Stewart.

Viewing will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday August 31, 2007 at Einans Funeral Home. Additional viewing will be from 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Basin City. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Riverview Heights Cemetery in Kennewick.
