Philip John Drinkwine

Philip John Drinkwine, born on October 18, 1931 in Superior, Wisconsin to Mina S. Gratreak and Henry R. Drinkwine, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 5, 2007. He was blessed with a large family to share his life with. His brothers; AI, Marvin, Harvey and Milton and his sisters; Lou, Judy, Jo and Marge will miss him dearly.

Phil attended Wisconsin State College in Superior, Wisconsin where he explored his talent as an actor. He appeared in several local plays and touched the artistic heart of everyone that knew him. Eventually his thirst for entertaining would lead him to a career in Radio where he met the love of his life, Connie Ann Joy and her daughter from a previous marriage, Brenda Ann Jones. Phil and Connie began their life together on May 20, 1961. Together they added to their small family and had 4 children, David Charles Drinkwine, Bradley Alan Drinkwine, Cindy Joy Bampton and Christy Ann Nugent.

He dedicated his life to raising his children, and enjoying time with his grandchildren. He never hesitated to help another in need, and had a passion for gardening. We should all be so fortunate to have the giving nature he shared with us. He was a devout Catholic and joined Christ the King church in 1983 where he enjoyed singing, being with his friends and the famous Sausage Fest where he would enjoy many years of spoiling his grandchildren, talking with his friends, watching the stage performances and trying his luck at bingo.

We will be honoring his life at Christ the King Church, Stevens Dr. in Richland on Monday, August 13th at ll:00 am. His family would appreciate all those that knew him to come and share your friendship and fond memories. There will be a small luncheon following the service at Christ the King.

A memorial account will be set up at GESA in Richland.

  • My Uncle Phil always remembered be at Christmas with a nice card and good wishes. He was soft and gentle in his gentlemanly manner and always spoke in kindness. my words of comfort for my cousins are taken from a card I bought mnay years ago when my good friend lost her Dad…something like this…”when you look in to the starry sky don’t see them as stars but as God’s porch lights welcoming yur loved one home. ” May this bring you come comfort. my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Much love, Jodie
