Joseh Edward Lucas

Our beloved husband, father and grandpa went back to be with his loved ones and Lord on September 24, 2007. His cherished family was with him until the last peaceful moment.

Joe was born to John and Elizabeth Kosa Lucas and grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut . He was the oldest of the three boys. Joe served in the Army Air Force and graduated from Fairfield University. Later he received a Master’s Degree from Northeastern University. He married his first wife, Rose Marie Lucas, in 1956. They had four boys together. The family moved to Richland in the late 1970’s. Joe worked at Hanford as a Quality Control Engineer until his retirement in the mid-1980’s. Rose Marie passed away in 1983. In 1989, Joe married Shirley Morris. Joe was fortunate to have two wonderful marriages.

Joe led an active life up to the very end and enjoyed skiing, sailing, hiking, camping and canoeing. He was a man of great intelligence who delighted in lifelong education. We love him and will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Rose Marie and infant son Paul. He is survived by his wife Shirley Lucas; his three sons Glen wife Shu-Chen and daughter Rose, Joseph and Robert wife Cielo and son Oscar; stepchildren Nancy Williams husband Ron, Lee Morris; grandchildren Grant and Julia Morris, and Kate, Kyle and Michael Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the Center for Positive Living, 210 E. 3rd Avenue, Kennewick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to Northwest Public Radio, PO Box 642530, Pullman, WA 99164-2530.

  • We knew Joe was failing but it was a shock to return home and see his obituary. We have lost a good friend! We will miss his humor and observations about the world as we gather around the campfire. We will miss him on canoe trips and hikes. He gave us all an example of being fit as a senior. We will miss you, Joe, our friend.

All our best to Shirley and the family.

  • We didn’t know Joe real well in past days but really enjoyed his company and conversations during our recently shared camping trip with Joe and Shirley.
