Mary Jayne Williams Hall

Mary Jayne Williams Hall, 93, passed away peacefully on September 1 in Portland, OR, with her son Richard by her side.

Born in Prescott, WA in 1914 Mary Jayne graduated from Prescott High School and later from Spokane Beauty College. During the Depression she worked as a manicurist at the Marcus Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla where she met and married Thomas Cecil Hall. Cecil preceded her in death in 1991 following more than 50 years of loving marriage.

Mary Jayne is survived by sons Richard Hall of Portland OR, and John Hall and her daughter-in-law Connie Madron Hall of Tempe AZ., and by her grandson, Brian Hall, his wife Daphne Borromeo Hall and one great-grand daughter, Samantha Morgan Hall, of Redondo Beach, Ca. She is also survived by brothers William Williams of Joseph Or and Gerald Williams of Walla Walla, Wa., numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She moved with her family to a B house at 1323 Thayer, Richland in 1953. Always positive and genuinely interested in others, Mary Jayne was a warm and generous person who put people and relationships first and made her home a welcome center for her family, many friends and neighbors for 53 years. She believed in the power of love and celebration. One of her passions was music. Mary Jayne and her husband Cecil loved to sing, dance and listen to the music they shared in the big band era. Gatherings, large or small, of family and friends gave her great joy as did volumes of pictures of those events and the many people whose lives she enriched.

Mary Jayne was for many years a member of Westside United Protestant Church and of the Kadlec Hospital Auxiliary.

A brief graveside service will be held Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland at 10:00am Monday September 10 followed by a Memorial Service at the North Sanctuary of the Westside United Protestant Church in Richland at 11:00am Monday September 10.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Heart Association.

  • Our prayers and sympathy goes out to all of the family. Your Mother and your Dad were wonderful people who lived a modest life but contributed much to their loved ones, friends and neighbors. They will truly be missed and we loved both of them dearly.

  • I always thought of “Mrs Hall” as my second grandma. My brother, Jeff, and I were born in the duplex next to her and Tom on Thayer Ave and they both played a significant role in our upbringing…I fondly remember her homemade raisin cookies, many hours of fun and laughter, and the peppermints she always had in her purse! Her kind, loving manner will stay with me always. My thoughts and prayers are with her family that she loved so much!

  • Not only did I think of “Mrs Hall” as my second grandmother but also as my second mother. She basically raised me the first two years of my life while my parents worked. I also remember spending lots of time at her house as a child with my sister, Shari, playing in the basement, having Mrs Hall’s home grown green beans for dinner, and of course those terrific raisin cookies! Her laugh warmed my heart and I was so thankful to have seen her several times the last couple of years to relive all the wonderful memories. I will miss her dearly and my prayers go out to her family.

  • Helen Wardell sent me the clipping concerning Jaynes passing on Sept. 1. Jayne and her husband Tom were close friends of my husband and I. We lived in their “B” house when both of our children were born and our friendship continued to the present even after we moved to California we came back for delightful visits. My children considered them to be their adopted grandparents. Jayne taught me to sew, make a decent piecrust, dye my hair and was always helpful in many other ways. Our family is saddened by her death.
