Jeanette ”Jan” C. Bell

Jan Bell, as she was known to many, left us Wednesday 10-10-07 to join her husband Clyde and her Heavenly Father. She was born 8-6-24 in LaGrange, Ga. Jan has lived in Richland since 1947. Jan was 83 years of age, and was very active until she suffered a stroke in August of 2001.

Jan had such a love of her Heavenly Father. We'll miss her, but knowing she's at peace and with her husband once again, is comforting to those she left behind.

Jan is survived by her children, Diana Bell Nelson-Pratt Mark, Richland, WA; Dr. Carl T. Bell Carol, American Fork, UT.; Dawn Bell Rich, Richland, WA, two brothers, Ruben D. Cato, Graniteville, SC; Thomas J. ''Jerry'' Cato Jr., Conyers, GA., two brothers-in-law E. Monroe Bell, West Linn, OR.; Jack M. Bell, Rockville, MD.; 13 grandchildren - Tom Nelson, Pasco. W A; Valecia Green, NY; David Bell, UT; Cyndi Gwilliams, UT.; Richard Bell, UT.; Anji Branch, UT.; Allyson Vaniman, ID; Mark Bell, OR.; John Bell, UT.; Summerissa Bell, UT; Tyler Bell, UT; Mark Pratt, OR; Teresa Southard, CT; 17 great-grandchildren, plus one due in December. Considering not all the grand-children are married yet, there will be many more children in her family. Jeanette also has many extended family members in Georgia.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Clyde J. Bell, parents Thomas J. Cato and Beulah Cato, and numerous other family members.

Her greatest rewards were spending time with her family and friends, and serving her Heavenly Father.

To our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, friend, we all will miss you so very much, but will always remember your love you shared with all of us. You've touched all you knew in ways we'll carry with us forever. Your work here is complete, so now you can begin your next journey.

Jan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cottonwood Ward, Richland and served it well and filled the duties of her many callings. One of her special callings was to be able to dedicate nearly 20 years of work in the Seattle Temple.

Our mother resided at the Legacy Assisted Living in Kennewick, WA for several years. We owe a very big thank you to the staff of Legacy for the love and compassion shown to mother: Bernadette, Glenda, Christi, Jerry, Julie, Liz.

There will be a viewing of our precious mother on Friday, Oct 19 from 5pm to 8pm at Einans Funeral Home, Richland, WA and on Sat, Oct 20 from 1:00-1:45 pm at the LDS Church on Jadwin St., Richland, WA. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm at the LDS Chapel on Jadwin. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland, WA immediately following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in mothers name to Hospice at 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336.

  • Dear Bell Family,

How we loved your sweet mother!! She was the Relief Society President when we moved to Richland and she and Luvia Taylor were among the first visitors in our home. She was also my visiting teacher and later I was hers. She loved your father and was devoted to him and to you her children. Her greatest joy seemed to be the telling of stories about her family. She told of long hours caring for her dear sick daughter and how that service made her love her and all her children more. She loved telling of Carl’s family and the birth of each new grandchild. She thought it especially interesting that they knew so much about child birth because of their Doctor father. I loved her key collection. Who else do we know who worked in their yard every single morning except Sunday to keep it so beautiful? Also, beautiful house plants and immaculate home. Our daughter Siska cleaned house for your Mom when she was in high school. Jan couldn’t get things done quite as well as before by that point. Some times they spent more time visiting than Siska did cleaning, and Siska always wanted to go see Jan when she came home from college. We have marveled that she could be so busy, organized and on top of things and still retain her Sourther Bell charm and accent. We love your mother and pray for your family in this time of her passing.

  • Diana, Dawn and Carl, my condolences in the recent passing of your mom. Having lost my parents already, I understand the emptiness you feel when you get that urge to give mom or dad a call and they aren’t there anymore. You’ll all share good memories no doubt. I’ll think of you over the next several days and hope that your pain recedes quickly.

  • To the Bells:

Your Mother was a Lady. Very sweet and caring. She and Mother Mazie were good friends, and we learned from Mother Mazie what a great person Jan IS. Take comfort in that she’s where she’s always planned to be, and lived for. With Clyde and other loved ones. We’ll see her there, with our other loved ones that have already passed.

  • I have known your mother for many years and have the greatest admiration for her. I think she is the most beautiful lady, inside and out that I have known. She has blessed my life with her charity and compassion during some difficult pregnaceis and loving care after. I named my 4th daughter after her because of my love and trust in her. That girl has many of the same qualities of your wonderful mother. She will be missed but never forgotten…..Love Billie
