Our beloved John M. Skinner passed from this life Thursday, October 11, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 25, 1949 in Waynesboro, Georgia, the third child of Eddie Lee Skinner.
John was devotedly committed to Debra Wright for 12 years, and the two resided in Richland, Washington. John and Debra loved family and friends and were actively involved in their community.
John graduated from Richland Columbia High School, Richland, Washington. Whatever John endeavored he put his heart and soul into it. He was a proud union member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW where in July 1970 he entered a four-year electrical apprenticeship which culminated in a 37-year journey wireman career. He worked tirelessly for the benefit of the membership of IBEW Local 112.

He was a civil rights activist and a member and past president of the local chapter of the NAACP. He was the first elected president of the African American Community, Cultural and Educational Society AACCES. He was well known as a great conversationalist, and very pellucid. He was a charitable and giving person.
John will forever remain in the hearts of Debra Wright, his mother Eddie Lee Skinner, daughters Nina Duckworth and Carmen Cady; stepchildren Nichele and Jerome Wright, Pamela Kinsey, and Angie Haynes; siblings Jerome, Ida, Belinda, Kenneth, Byron and Brian Skinner; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Ida Jones. Thanks, John, for the love and joy you brought into our lives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Einans Funeral Home, Richland, with graveside to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be available Tuesday the 16th from 5:00-8:00 PM.

I am very saddened to read of John’s passing. I knew John at RHS, I was class of 70. I remember John as a handsome, really fun guy. Most of us in those days were were pretty focussed on fun. I had a PE class with John and always remember that always present smile. I hope John’s family is comforted by the nice memories many of us have of John….all my best thoughts go to all of you.
Mike
Ken and family, sorry about your loss. Prayers and condolences from the Fisher family…
John:
I will never forget that smooth, velvety tone in your voice and how it would light up my day. You always stood your ground if you believed in a cause or a person, even if it was not the “popular cause or the right clique”. I know God has a special place for you—-you are probably giving a speech right now. You will always have a special place in my heart and I will remember your smile and count my blessing that I was able to call you a friend. Love Ya!
May God gave you strength and peace during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,
Katie Barton and family.
To the Skinner family
May God’s presence ease your trembling spirit and give you rest. When what you are feeling is simply too deep for words and nothing anyone does or says can provide you with the relief you need, God understands.
With deepest sympathy
I will miss seeing John in the store and talking about kids with him. My sympathy to Debra and Jerome and all of his family. He was a great resource to me when I worked at KONA. He became a friend to me right away. Judy and Justin
