Thelma Ruth Roddy

Thelma Ruth Roddy, 93, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Richland on December 19, 2007.

She was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 14, 1914. She attended school in Philadelphia and worked in a textile mill and as a clerk at Sears before starting her career as a homemaker and mother when she married the love of her life and best friend, Edmund Cecil Roddy. Before moving their family to Richland in 1951, Thelma and Edmund were owner-proprietors of a corner grocery, Roddy Unity Store.

She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and past Alter Society member. She volunteered for many years in different capacities at Christ the King School. She was creative and artistic, and an avid seamstress.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Edmund; her daughter Elinor Claire Roddy; parents Franklin and Rose Rhoads; brothers, Franklin Rhoads and Russell Rhoads; and sister Ethel Rhoads.

She is survived by her children Edmund C. Jr. and Virginia Roddy of Phoenix, AZ, Russell and Sandy Roddy of Weatherford, TX, Carol and Richard Coffman of Moscow, ID, Richard and Beth Roddy of Richland, and Marcia and Craig Bendewald of Kennewick, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Viewing will be at Einan’s funeral home in Richland from 1-7 PM on Thursday December 27, followed by Rosary services at 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 PM Friday, December 28, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland. Internment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Help Program, or to a charity of choice.

  • What I always remember about Grandmom is the tenderness of he touch and the comfort of her smile. She was just the most wonderful Grandmom anyone could of had. Her passing will leave a great void in the lives of all who knew and loved her Good-bye Grandma I love you, and I will miss you greatly. May your new journey be truely blessed.

  • There are to many fond memories to share. I will always remember her unconditional love. I know that she is now with the love of her life-my grandfather and my Aunt Claire-which she told me one time they were watching over her. So now I guess she is now watching over all of us.

    My heart aches for all of you with your moms passing. She was a gifted, talented and a strong woman traits she has passed on to all of you. She has invested herself well, as you are the fruit of her labor pretty good crop if I say so myselfrest and peace with her Lord is now her reward and we will all be reunited one day.
