Theodore ''Ted'' Joseph Morrison, 89 of Richland passed away on January 10, 2008. Ted, the son of David and Marie Wagner Gunine, was born on July 5, 1918 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He attended Catholic schools in the Saint Paul area and proudly enlisted in the military shortly upon obtaining his education. He served two separate tours of duty in the Army from 1936 to 1940 and again from 1942 to 1945. He was honorably discharged from the Army, 11th Airborne division after being wounded and receiving a Purple Heart. He traveled overseas to many areas working in the Civil Service to places such as Guam where, as a professional boxer, he fought Joe Louis in 1945.
Following his Civil Service duties, he returned home to Saint Paul. He eventually met and married his first wife, Graciela. He later married his second wife, Betty Jensen Bergstrom.
In 1968, following an employment transfer with the Post Office, Ted headed west to Richland, where he raised his 3 children. He retired from the Richland Post Office in 1977. He continued to work part time as a security escort for Westinghouse during his retirement.
Ted was an avid reader and was well loved by the staff of the Richland Library. He relished his independence and was well recognized around Richland for many years walking around town with his walker.
He is lovingly survived by his 3 children Marie, Joe Sandra and Rob Michelle, and his grandchildren, Angela, Michelle, Brandon, Megan and Theodore. Additionally, he leaves behind an older sister, Lucille of Portland and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a younger sister, Patricia and his parents. His beloved dogs, Rusty, AJ and Bella also mourn his passing.
Memorial services will be held at Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland on Friday, January 18th, at 3:00 p.m.
Love and miss you very much dad.
Ted was my stepdad for a few years when he was married to my mom, Betty. I remember sitting in the livingroom on Burns Avenue in St. Paul listing to the radio with him and the rest of the kids. I remember him giving Marie and myself a break whenever he checked our bedroom after we cleaned it. He would look under the beds and in the closet and “pretend” he didn’t see the mess we hid. He was a sweetheart and I will miss him dearly.
