From Richland, WA, US | Born in Marion, Illinois

Carl Vernell Frick, JR

Carl Frick was born on November 15, 1921, in Marion Ill. He graduated from Marion High School then married his dear wife of 63 years, Frances Frick, and then attended Browns Business College. Carl and his wife moved from Marion III to Paducah Kentucky where he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. Carl and his wife moved from Kentucky out to the new Hanford Works Project and located in Richland. He worked in construction and his wife worked as a telephone operator. Carl eventually obtained a job with the Federal Government as a United States Courier. In this capacity he moved processed plutonium around the country. Carl then worked in records management for the Federal Government and in his final employment years he worked for the Exxon Corporation north of Richland.

Carl was a Mason and active in the Shriners Organization. He was active in Little League, President of the Bomber Boosters, and President of the Richland Toastmasters Club. Carl and Frances also were the leaders of the Central United Protestant Youth Group for several years. In addition, Carl was one of the main organizers of the original Richland Days at Howard Amon Park.

Carl was well known in the community as one of the most friendly persons you could encounter. He always had time for anyone and was always concerned about the social welfare of everyone. Carl was the neighborhood father for about three different neighborhoods and took his son and his many friends, fishing, camping, hiking, boating, and to many basketball state tournament games in Seattle. He left a very positive impression on many young people in the community as to the value of living a good clean life and participating in positive character building activities. In addition, he helped many young adults in finding employment, housing, and establishing themselves in the community. Carl presented a portrait of loving, caring, giving, and helping. His picture was certainly one to emulate. He will sorely be missed by his family and many people in the community. Carl was one of a kind and a vacuum has been created that will be hard to fill.

Carl lost his wife three years ago and is survived by his son Bob Frick and his wife Patricia; his granddaughters Becky Haverfield Dan and Wendy Wardlow Greg; his grandson Major Scott Frick, U.S. Air Force; and his great-grandchildren Sierra Haverfield, Savanna Haverfield, Cheyenne Haverfield, and Caden Haverfield; special nephews Butch Bishop Peggy, Bill Bishop Julie; special niece Margaret Ann Heyde; cousin J.B. Heyde; and numerous great-nieces and –nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14, at Einan's Funeral home 915 By-Pass Hwy Richland. The service will take place at 2:00pm. The family invites you to come and celebrate with us, Carl's victorious life.

  • I have known Carl for many years. As we worked together at Exxon Nuclear, I got to know him from many nights on the plant.

He was one of the most caring, gentle people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

I am unable to attend the memorial service, as my dad is having cancer surgery that day. But please know that Carl will not be forgotten!
