Roger Webb

Roger Webb

Loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend lost his courageous fight with cancer on May 16th, 2008, but not his zest for life.

Roger was born January 16, 1966, in Burlingame, CA, to his parents Ray and Gay Anne Webb. During his childhood years Roger and his family moved frequently, but home was always considered Montana where he spent summers visiting family. During grade school Roger played the violin in the youth orchestra and traveled on a concert tour to Austria and Germany. He was also active in Boy Scouts and proud to be an Eagle Scout. He graduated high school in Mississippi in 1984, where he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. In 1989 he earned a B.S. degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Arizona. After graduation he moved to Richland, WA for his first job at the Hanford site. After several years of working, Roger obtained his mechanical professional engineering license. Roger enjoyed working on various engineering projects related with the Hanford site for nearly 18 years.

Roger and Pam were married on November 30, 1991 in Richland. After several years of marriage, and buying their first home in West Richland, they were blessed with two beautiful girls, Raelynn 11 and Lydia 9. Roger loved to spend time with his family. Some of their favorite past times together were camping, boating especially water tubing behind the boat, fishing, swimming, boogie boarding in the ocean surf and traveling. He was a devoted father, always ready to help with the girls activities like school science projects, math homework and pumpkin carving at Halloween. Roger's favorite passionate hobbies were fishing, hunting deer, elk and anything that flies. One of Roger's favorite sayings was "if it flies it dies". Needless to say Roger had a great sense of humor and loved to be amongst friends and family. In the last few weeks of his life, Roger felt connected to those he loved through cell phone conversations. Roger always had his cell phone close by so he could reach out and talk to friends and family.

Roger's best friend was Jesus Christ. He was active in church, including being an elder at West Side Church. When Roger would relax in his favorite chair a picture with a soaring eagle hung with the following Bible verse: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31. This is one of many favorite Bible verses that comforted Roger and provided him with strength. Roger's choice was not to leave earth, however he knew he was going to be with Jesus. Roger's wish was to make sure that he would someday see all of his friends and family in heaven. Roger openly shared his faith through personal and telephone conversations, as well as through the CaringBridge blog. Roger wants a party in heaven with everyone that he knew. He is waiting with open arms and a great conversation.

Roger is survived by his loving wife Pam and two daughters, Raelynn and Lydia, his parents Ray and Gay Anne Webb, and sister Darcy from Colorado Springs; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate Roger's life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2008. West Side Church 615 Wright Ave., Richland, WA 99352.

In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to West Side Church mission fund at 615 Wright Ave., Richland, WA 99352.

  • I just learned of this. I was looking to contact Roger to teach him my new theories on Nuclear structure. I am certain (After some initial arguments) he would have found them very useful. It would have been very helpful in his work at Hanford.

I am sad to hear of his passing but know he is with Christ! Talk with you later Bud!

  • To the entire family….

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy go out to each of you. Hold on to your memories of your son, brother, husband, and dad and let them guide you during this time of sadness. Sorrow is a fleeting emotion – but love is infinite. Where answers fail, seek prayer. Find peace.
