Nancy H. Jones Nan

Nancy H. Jones Nan died in Pasco after a short illness on July 19, 2008. She was born in Oklahoma, the fifth child of C.J. and Caroline Harris. She had eight brothers and sisters. When she was eleven, she played the drums in a family band.

Nan met her life-long companion and best friend, Bill, through her brother Joe. Joe and Bill worked together in Memphis, Tennessee. Nan and Bill were married after Bill returned home from World War II. She worked as a secretary for DuPont and was transferred to the Manhattan Project. In 1947 she quit working outside the home to raise her children.

Nan and Bill lived in the Tri-Cities off and on for over sixty years. They made many great friends and had many fun times fishing, boating, camping, waterskiing and swimming. In 1959, they installed a gunite swimming pool in their backyard. From that day on, each house they purchased in Florida, Tennessee and Nevada had a pool. Nan taught swimming lessons for many years to special needs children at the Richland YMCA pool. She swam almost every day each summer until the summer of 2001. She also was an avid reader, enjoyed yard work and gardening, playing card games, and sewing.

Nan is survived by her loving husband Bill; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Roger Fishback of Richland; her son Jim Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; her grandchildren Jamie Fishback of Richland, Alyssa and John Kupka of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Lee Jones and Jen of Las Vegas, Nevada; great-grandchildren Tyler Fishback and Makenzie and Makaela Jones; her sister Sue and husband Charles Conway of Kennewick; her sister Caroline and husband Tunis Decker of Hansville, Washington; her brother Bill Harris of Hanceville, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews across the United States.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and four brothers, her beloved granddaughter Dana Fishback, and most of her dear close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Einan's Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Harvest, 810 E Chemical Drive, Kennewick, WA 99336.

  • My condolences to your family. Nan was a wonderful person who my parents Marge and Ken Stockerwere very fond of and me too. Her name comes up often even now when my sister and I remember our childhoods. We can remember many happy hours as a children swimming in the backyard pool while our parents visited or played games with Nan and Bill. My dad and Bill worked and I believe played golf together. The world was definitely a better place with Nan in it and she will be missed. Again, my condolences to your family. Becky Stocker Adams 946-8714
