Edith R. Bence arrived at her Heavenly Home on September 5, 2008 after 95 years of loving and bringing joy & smiles to others with her wonderful sense of humor, even in her last days as she succumbed to her courageous battle with cancer.
Edith was born on May 30, 1913 to Parker J. Anderson and Amelia Wise Anderson in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She married Michael T. Bence in October, 1934.
Edith and husband Michael moved from Pittsburgh to Southern California in 1951 with their three sons, Michael Jr., Parker PJ and David.
In 1990, Edith relocated from So. California to the Tri-Cities to be near her son Parker and her grandchildren. She became very active at the Richland Community Center and enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her many friends. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, always looking forward to visiting with her friends there. She especially loved her trips to either Wild Horse or Legends Casinos with her three "boys" when Mike and David came to visit.
Edith is survived by her three sons and their wives: Michael and Pamela Bence of San Diego, CA, Parker and Bonney Bence of Richland, WA. and David Bence and Anita Connors of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and their spouses: Colonel Christopher and Wendy Bence of Stafford, VA, Melinda and Ronald Thomas of West Richland WA., and Kathrine and Jonathan Door of Kennewick WA. Seven great grandchildren also brought joy to her life: Jessica, Benjamin and Aaron Thomas, Breanna and Rebecka Bence, Brennan Bence and KayLee Door.
She was preceded in death by her husband Michael, brothers Gerard, Edwin and Paul Anderson, and sisters Matilda Miller and Helen Barkman.
The family wishes to thank Father O'Shea and Father Auve from Parish Of The Holy Spirit, and Betsy from Christ the King Church for their spiritual support over these trying months. A special thank you to Doctor Gene Wong, the Tri-Cities Cancer Center and the wonderful staff of Hospice at the Chaplaincy for their compassionate care of Edith during her illness.
A rosary will be held at Einan's Funeral home at 915 By-Pass Highway on September 10, 2008, at 7:30 PM with visitation prior to Rosary starting at 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11:00 AM, 1111 Stevens Drive Richland on September 11, 2008. She will join her husband for interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Culver City, California.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice at the Chaplaincy 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336, Tri-Cities Cancer Center, 7350 W. Deschutes Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336 or a charity of one's choice.
