Joe Dalstra was born in Deventer Netherlands on June 27th, 1919. He departed this earthly life on September 17th, 2008 to be with our Lord in his new life. Joe was the only son of Brant and Jana Lindeboom Dalstra who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Dorothy P. Dalstra, who lives in Richland, Washington.

Joe had two daughters, one son, and two stepchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Jana Kuntz of Plasserville California, a son, Ben Dalstra and wife Maryland of Prosser Washington, a daughter, Jany Dalstra and friend Janet of Grassvalley California, the stepchildren, Mike Palmieri and wife Marcie of Kennewick Washington, and Betsy Chichocki and husband Dan of Bremerton Washington. Joe immigrated to the United States in 1948 with a young family, lived in California and working in the dairy business. In 1972, he moved to Grandview Washington where he owned and operated his own dairy farm. He named the dairy farm "Labonna Esperance Dairy," which translated means "The New Hope." He retired from his dairy business in 1987. Joe was a member of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church where he and Dorothy were married, and then moved to Richland Washington in 1994, joining the Westside Presbyterian Church.

Joe loved to dance, go to concerts and potluck diners, and attend small group bible studies. He also loved to sing, read, travel, play pinochle, and spend time with his family. His friends were also very important to him. He made a point of, and took pride in, remembering the names of friends and others that he met. He enjoyed telling stories of his life, and the history of Europe. Joe fought in World War II, was captured by the Germans, and was held in concentration camps on two occasions.

Joe Dalstra will be greatly missed by his wife Dorothy, his family, and his many friends. May God hold him closely in his loving arms, and comfort those in their sorrow.

  • Our family was so blessed to know Joe! His genuine interest in Dane and Olivia was so appreciated as he was always happy to see them and frequently inquired about them. They were very fond of his enthusiastic welcomes to us – along with his wonderful cheerfulness and thoughtfulness. Eric and Joe had a special friendship brought together from their participation in Alpha. It was a time for learning from each other and it forged a bond that will last until we meet again. Our love goes to Dorothy and his entire family – we share in your loss. We look forward to sharing in the joy of knowing that we will be reunited and hear his booming voice welcoming us once again!

    Love,

Eric, Debbie, Dane and Olivia Anderson
