Marlene Yvonne Gallion
09/12/1938 — 10/07/2008
From West, Richland, WA, US | Born in Niles, OH
Marlene Yvonne Gallion
Marlene Gallion, 70, of West Richland, WA passed away on October 7, 2008 at Cherished Living Adult Family Home in Richland, WA. She was a resident in the Tri-City area since 1997.
Marlene was born on September 12, 1938 in Niles, Ohio. Her dad was a city policeman and her mother was an assembly-line worker. Being the youngest of 3 children, her two older brothers soon went off to serve the military leaving her alone. "Mar", as she has always affectionately been called, had an early appreciation for music, taking piano lessons and singing in many choirs both in school and in her church. Many of the "Accidentals" singing group have continued to be life-long friends even if scattered across the country.
Losing her mother as a young teenager meant a strong bond between Mar and her grandmother and her father as well as several extended family and friends. Her early adult life was blessed with her son, Jeffrey and later her marriage to Carl joined their blended families together. Mar's proudest moment had to be witnessing the birth of her first grandchild, Jennifer. Other grandchildren continued to enrich her life as well.
Mar followed her husband's federal career as they moved from Annapolis, Md. to Yakima, WA. in 1979 where she worked for the Yakima Telco Credit Union for many years. She enjoyed bowling, camping and many trips into the Cascade Mountains. In 1984, they returned to Maryland where she worked at the U. S. Naval Academy Midshipmen's Store for several years. Life in Cape St. Claire blessed them with many camping/travel opportunities in the beautiful and historic Eastern seaboard area before leaving in 1993 to move to Kaneohe, HI. Their tour in the islands offered a bounty of experiences and opportunities to travel and to enjoy the polynesian culture.
Health conditions began to change for Mar and in 1997 she was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease. She and Carl settled back in West Richland, WA to enjoy what years they could with friends and family surrounding them. As HD progressed, additional resources were required to assist Mar. In 2005, she moved to Cherished Living, an Adult Family Home in Richland where the owners, Glen and Wendy Kelly provided exceptional life support to her. She became "Mistress Mar" to Glen as he cared for her daily needs. His efforts gave Mar the finest level of care anyone could ask for and the family will forever be in his debt for his professional devotion and personal friendship.
Mar is survived by her devoted husband Carl Gallion, loving children Jeffrey Edwards sonof Richland, WA, Suzanne Smith daughter of Kennewick, WA., Gayle Capen daughter of Yakima, WA., a brother James Agues of Warren, Ohio, an aunt Lillian Jackson of Hartville, Ohio and uncle John Dunkelman of Niles, Ohio. Also 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Bonnaru, Heather Edwards, Jessica Capen, Charles Smith and Leyna Smith.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Verner and Mary Dunkelman Agues and brother, Leroy Agues, all formerly of Ohio.
A memorial service will be held on Oct 18th at Einan's Chapel at 10:00 AM in Richland, WA following with a graveside at Sunset Gardens in Richland.
Donations may be made in memory of Marlene Gallion to Northwest Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America, NWHDSA PO Box 33345 Seattle, WA. 98133

My deepest sympathy to Carl and the Gallion family.
We hold cherished memories of Mar sharing the beauties of Hawaii. Our hearts are with Carl and all of Mar’s family at this difficult time.
Carl, our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. May you find peace in the Lord. Through the last few years we have gotten to know “Mar” with our visits to the Adult Home where she lived. What a beautiful smile would greet us. My grand daughters and I had the priveliege to help feed “Mar” at dinner time. She warmed our hearts in so many ways. Carl, you gave your “all” to her and more. Let those “sweet” memories over the years warm your heart and take your grief away. She is at peace now.
Our thoughts are with you,
My prayers go out to Carl and Mar’s family. I did no know Mar but I do know Carl. Knowing Carl, by extension I know Mar to be a beautiful, thoughtful and kind person. I wish you peace and solace during this time of bereavement. God Bless You all!
Carl,
I didn’t know your beloved Mar well, but I know how much you loved and cared for her. I am now the caretaker for my dear husband, and I hope I can do it with the strength, devotion, and love I saw in you. Mar is now at peace and pain free. May you find peace and solace in your many memories.
Dear Carl, My deepest sympathy at the loss of Mar. Although I’ve only known you for the past several years through Barb and your wonderful help/advice to me in dealing with Huntington’s Disease of in my family as well. I’ve seen in my mind through your e-mails, the wonderful, caring manner in which you took care of Mar. Your daily visits to the Adult Care Home gave me the insight into what a wonderful person you are and how lucky Mar was to have you there in such a loving manner. I hope God grants you his peace at heart. Dwell only on your wonderful memories of the two of you together and know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Carl, I only met Mar a few years ago but she touched my heart with her beautiful smile and humor. Your devotion to her has always been an inspiration to so many. Everyone could see your love for each other. May the peace and comfort of the Lord be with you and yours.
Carl, Both of us want to send our deepest condolences. It has been a difficult road to travel for you. Your devotion to Mar has always been seen by us. Her hd made the care and devotion to her very difficult. Know that her suffering is over and she is in a better place. We cannot make it to the services due to former commitments. Dearest Cousin Carl and Families,
Please FEEL that we love you beyond ways and measure. “Feel the brush of angels wings” as they surround you tomorrow and forever. We know you have always been our model of the loving father and husband. Be strong–God is with you “Footprints”. Mar was always smiling and so sweet. Thank goodness you came to AZ. when you did. You were in Hawaii for us and Mom. Don’t know how we could have been there without you both. When you need a laugh, just think of the apple trees behind your MD. home, or Hawaii and the lizards! You are my BRO. God bless you all. Love, Sis 2
