From Richland, WA, US | Born in Jacksonville, Florida
William Royal Markillie
Bill Markillie was born on February 11, 1938 and went home to be with his savior on November 19, 2008. Bill grew up in a military family and spent the majority of his youth in the Panama Canal Zone and San Antonio, TX. Bill graduated from Texas A&M in 1959 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Before entering the Army in 1961 he met and married Peggy Bellarts. They spent 47 years together. After returning to Richland, Bill developed and deployed computer control systems and managed projects for all of the various DOE contractors. Bill and Peggy raised two boys: Paul, wife Kim and family live in Aiea, HI; Jeff, wife Meng and family live in Richland. Bill was especially proud of his four grandchildren: Rebekah, John, Maya and Hope. Life was filled with family outings, soccer trips and Boy Scouts. Bill provided leadership at West Side Church.
Bill was a family man, mentor to many, took his work seriously, and in everything he did, pursued excellence, humility and grace. His motto for living was, "prior planning prevents poor performance," and he sought to live up to that ideal Along with his wife and children, Bill leaves behind his sister Kelly and husband Miguel Cortez, brother Robert Markillie, Aunt Lois Morgan and friends across the country and around the world.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 29 at 2:00 at West Side Church in Richland. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Tri Cities Hospice or West Side Church

Peggy – our deepest condolences. We met you and Bill some time ago on our trip to Alaska. We enjoyed Bill’s humor and ability to make you smile and laugh, his open mind and kind heart.
We’re sure that he has left this special spirit around your home and in your heart to strenghen you and giving you the power to find a smile every day even in difficult times. Hugs from your friends in B.C.

Peggy,
It was so great to be with you in Richland earlier this year. We remember fondly your trip to Albania, and the special way that both you and Bill spent time with the people in our church and community here. Our hearts are with you during this time. May our Lord be your comfort and strength. Our love and His peace be with you.

I have been a friend of Kelly Markillie Cortez’s for over 30 years. Although I never met Bill, Kelly talked about him often and loved him very much so I felt like I knew him. I am so sorry for his loss and will keep Peggy and his family in my prayers.
Thoughts go out to all of you across the USA. Special thoughts to each of Uncle Bill’s grandchildren. Have a thankful holiday and wonderful celebration next weekend.
prayers from snowy Vermont.
Kathleen Morgan Davis Willis – Grand Niece, daughter of Bill’s sister, Kelly Cortez.
May God continue to strenthen you during this difficult time of loss. My memory is of you both dressing in Mother Goose costumes and coming to Our Savior to read when you visited the islands.
God’s arms are there to lift you up now as he did during your shared years of ministry in life.

I am standing on the seashore. A ship sails into the ocean breeze and starts for the ocean. She is an object of beauty, and I stand watching her till at last she fades on the horizon. Someone at my side says, “She is gone.”
Gone — gone where? Gone from my sight … that is all. She is just as large in the masts, hull, and spars as when I last saw her … and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination. The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not her. And just at that moment when someone at my side says, “she is gone,” there are others who are watching her coming, and their voices take up the glad shout, “There she is.” … And that is dying.
This prayer helped me when I lost my mom, and I hope it will be as meaningful for you. You are in my prayers …

With my deepest sympathy. We all loved it when your mom and dad came for a visit. Your mom as mother goose and your dad as support and stage hand. He was always so nice. He will be missed!
Love, Mel
Our prayers are with you in this time of loss. It is hard when those we love have to leave us behind, but there is also joy in knowing that Bill is having a great time with Jesus now. Something we all look forward to! God bless you all in this time of loss.
