Born October 7, 1922 to Arnold and Dorthea Kohnert, she lived in Barrington, Illinois until she married Arnold Edward Scherler, and shared his military life and travels for over 30 years. She raised four children and taught them how to love and show kindness to others.

Freda passed away on December 18, 2008. Several family members who loved her very much survive her. Arnold and Mary Kohnert - her brother, living in Oregon.

Arnold "Bud" Scherler of Seattle – her eldest, and the father of Dawn Scherler and Mikyla Lafolette and grandfather of Jarred and Joshua Lafolette, Kyra Scherler and Kody Cooper.

Jeffery Harmon of California – Free spirit and mother of Michelle.

Joy and Ray Reilly of Richland – parents of Zachary, Nathan and Tristan Reilly, whom she watched grow from infancy to young men.

Gary Scherler of Seattle – the youngest, and who could always make her smile.

"Grandma's" greatest pleasure was watching her family grow, and being an active part of their lives. She told everyone that the best birthday present she ever received was the birth of her great-grandchild Caitlin Quinn on her birthday just 2 months ago.
The family would like to thank Richland Rehab for their kindness and compassion, and the love and friendships she shared with them for the last 1-½ years. We would like to also thank Lower Valley Hospice for guiding us along this part of her life's journey and a special thanks to Deacon Robert "Bob" DaValle, for providing Freda with spiritual comfort and friendship.
