From Richland, WA, US | Born in Beeville, Texas
Mary Virginia Heid
Mary V. Heid passed away on December 16, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. She was 75 years old. Mary was born to Jesse and Ruth Gibson in Beeville, Texas on June 12, 1933. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Hot Wells High School and Trinity University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
In 1952 she met her future husband, Roy, who was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, at a church group for young adults. They were married on December 11, 1954. They lived in Austin, Texas, where she worked for Heep Oil Corporation as an Executive Secretary to the CEO. Mary supported Roy and two kids while he worked for his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Texas. They moved to Richland in 1961. She worked part time at Battelle as a word processor while her children were in school. After retiring, she volunteered her time at Kadlec Hospital.
Things Mary loved included: word jumble , cryptoqoute, and crosswords; knitting, sewing and quilting for family and friends; game shows and soaps; volunteering with friends at Kadlec; making pecan pies at Thanksgiving; 5am Black Friday shopping with Susan and Joy; playing bridge with close friends; manicured nails; helping Susan with yard sales; finding typos; labeling everything; mimosas on Mother's Day; wine and champagne on all other occasions; gambling trips to Laughlin and Legends; making Christmas decorations; cruises in the Caribbean; and rooting for the Longhorns on New Year's Day.
But most of all she loved her husband of 54 years, Roy, her son Gary and his wife Joy, her daughter Susan and her husband Rich, her grandchildren Cole, Casie, Haille and Brady, her dogs Maddie and Sadie, her sister Ruth Ann and brother Bubba, and all her treasured life-long friends.
Per her request, a family service has been planned. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.
This firsst time I met Mary I felt like I knew her all my life. She was a wonderful friend. I will miss our legends Casino runs and our weekly lunch on wed.I will miss her greatly

Dear Roy,
I am so sorry to hear about Mary. She was such a sweet person. I will always remember our G&T’s while Mary had her champagne! I will also remember our pizza and movie nights and the hunting for golf balls with our drinks in hand! Our thoughts are with you, Gary, Susan and Ruth Ann. I will truly miss her.
Janet
Dear Roy:
I was so sorry to read that Mary had died, she was such a lovely person. While we might have lost touch over the last few years due to busy lives, the friendship from the good old WPPSS days come to mind often and are remembered with a smile and much fondness.
My thoughts are with you, Gary and Susan at this difficult time.
Hugs,
Roy, Gary and Susan–We were stunned to learn of Mary’s death. Every time I look at the book our little group wrote in that pre-fab on Winslow, I think of Mary. We always enjoyed your family and we send our heartfelt sympathy. Daryl and Pat Jonson
Dear Roy,
I am so shocked to hear of Mary’s passing. I was part of the old WPPSS gang. I had visited with Mary a couple of times I was at Kadlec. She was as joyful as ever. She had a unique wit and sense of humor. I wasn’t surprised she would volunteer at a hospital. What a beautiful lady! She always mentioned your children and grandchildren. I’m so sorry for your loss. Know that others are praying for you and care. Gently, Connie Seidl Hull
I did not know Mary well, but would see her occasionally when she came in to work every Tuesday in the Same Day Surgery unit. She was the mystery lady – other Auxilians would see her come in, but didn’t know her name. She was known as the “pretty lady” that worked in SDS. We will miss seeing her every week and appreciate all the hard work that she did.

Kadlec Auxiliary President
Roy – I was so sorry to learn about Mary’s illness and death. She was one who always made me laugh, she had such a great attitude and sense of humor – even if she was trying to be serious – it just somehow came out funny. I know you will miss her so much…Carol
Mary – how can you describe her â beautiful, generous, kind, fun, funny. Mary was truly a great friend. We have so many good memories that it is difficult to pick just a few. One that stands out in our minds is Maryâs first gambling experience. Mary and Roy went with us in Mom and Dads Jeanice and Nester Wise motorhome to Reno. When we crossed the border into Nevada, Dad took Mary into her first casino where she placed a dime in the slot and received THREE DIMES – with all the whooping and hollering we thought she had won at least $1000. That started her on her casino trail. What a kick. It was difficult decorating the house for Christmas this year as so many of my treasured decorations were made by Mary. She was truly gifted. We boated together, worked together, raised kids together, laughed and cried together, and partied together. Memories of Mary will always be with us. John and Darla Kennedy
Roy, Gary & Susan I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have so many great memories of Mary, from boating, swimming in your pool, and being the 3rd wheel when mom and dad would come over to your house, seemed like I tagged along quite a bit and hung out with buffy. Roy, remember me being the ‘bartender’ for the gin & tonic, peanuts and bridge mix nights you would have at our house? I must have made a good drink because you guys all kept me busy. Most of all I remember Mary was always interested in what you had to say and always happy to see you. She will definately be missed by all that knew her.
Roy,
I was so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. It happened so fast. The casino’s flags should be flying half-mast in her honor. Things are tough on you now, just hang in there.
Bill K.
Roy:

My Mother in law, Mary Heid. I first met Mary 23 years ago in Richland. Her daughter, Susan and I have been married 20 years as of November 18th, 2008. Mary was always fun, enjoyable and loving of her family, friends and pets. We all enjoyed life because Mary made it better for each of us. She will be missed, but always loved and never forgotten. Her Texas roots will always have us chanting, “Hook’em Horns!” And Mary’s pecan pies were simply out of this world. I should know cause I ate a ton of them. To me she will always be my “Mom.” Loving, fun and always there for everyone.
Mary, Roy, Phil, and I have been best buddies since 1963. We lived around the corner from each other for 7 years, and during that time we were practically inseparable. We loved playing bridge, laughing, crying, sipping margaritas, and listening to Mary’s Texas drawl. We used to laugh at her pronunciation of a “farty” leg in bridge and her raising her fingers for”Hook em Horns”. We continued to stay close as we both moved around the country. We went to baseball games with them in the east and were together again in Richland for four years in the 1990’s. We have continued to visit every chance we got.
Mary had a wonderful sense of humor and a great spirit and I will miss her terribly. We are blessed to have known the entire family.

Dear Roy and family,
We were so sorry to hear of Maryâs illness and death. We know she was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Weâre very thankful we were able to spend time with you and Mary this past summer when Joy and Gary invited us to visit. I remember Mary telling a funny story about how she had to chase the dogs around the vet clinic. She always had interesting and funny stories to tell. Please know that we are thinking of all of you and praying that your cherished memories will bring you peace and comfort.
