From Richland, WA, US | Born in East Lansing, Michigan

Andrea Lee Daschbach

Andrea Lee Daschbach, 50, of Richland, WA passed away peacefully at home in Richland on January 26, 2009 after a courageous four year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born December 10, 1958 in East Lansing, MI and has lived in the Tri-Cities for 15 years. Andi was a Registered Nurse for Dr. Wadhwa and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Andi was raised in the Denver Colorado area. She graduated from Golden High School in Golden Colorado in 1977 where she was homecoming queen. She spent one winter in Breckenridge Colorado and then attended Fort Lewis College in Durango Colorado, graduating in 1982 with a B.S. in Chemistry. After travels in Europe she attended chemistry graduate school at the University of Utah, but then decided to pursue nursing. She obtained a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Utah in 1987 and worked as a nurse in the recovery room at the University of Utah. She married John Daschbach in Golden Colorado in September 1988. She worked as a nurse while living in Eugene Oregon in 1991 - 1993. Moving to Richland WA in 1994 she worked as a nurse at Kadlec Hospital and subsequently in a number of doctors' offices in Richland, most recently with Dr. Wadhwa. An avid runner, she completed 9 marathons, including twice the Boston Marathon, as well as numerous shorter races. She enjoyed cross-country and downhill skiing, hiking and camping.

In 2000 she and John adopted a son, Lyle, and in 2002 a son Cooper, both from Guatemala. She was intensely devoted to the boys and spent countless hours playing with them and filling their lives with activities.

She was an exceptionally kind and caring person and had devoted friends all around the country. After a lifetime of searching she recently found a home in the Catholic Church, but all her life she lived the Golden Rule to a degree rarely found. She will be greatly missed, but our lives will remain deeply enriched having known her.

Survivors include husband John Lyle Daschbach; sons Lyle Daschbach, 8, and Cooper Daschbach, 6; father Cooper Wayman of Westminster, CO; mother Ruth Wayman of Westminster, CO; sister Carol Withers of Westminster, CO; nephew Nick Withers, 13, of Broomfield, CO and mother-in-law, Joan Daschbach, of San Mateo, CA.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:30 AM Monday, February 2, 2009 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Richland, followed by Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King School in Richland, WA or to Latin American Heritage Camp in Denver, CO.

  • I knew Andi when we both worked for Dr. Sullivan. She was warm and caring to her co-workers and most especially to the patients. I was so happy for her when she and her husband adopted their sons. The world was a better place with Andi in it. She made a difference.

  • John, Lyle, Cooper, and family, I met Andi at the club and even though we are so very different we somehow just clicked. I have enjoyed her friendship and uplifting loving words these past years. Words are poor substitutes for what I wish to convey. Much love to you all. Ruth Richman

  • We are so sorry for your loss and know how much she will be missed. As neighbors, we felt privileged to know Andi and enjoyed her flower garden and willingness to share nectarines. Just remember the good times, we are sure that Andi is running marathons in Heaven.

  • Andi and I took our infants to CBC baby class together, and then met up again at Westside preschool, and then finally at Christ the King School where the kids are now in 3rd grade together. As older parents we had a common bond. Lydia and I will miss her greatly.

  • We were honored to have known Andi for the last 7 years. We met when going through our second adoptions. We held each others hands through the process and have enjoyed sharing our childrens’ lives as they grew. Andi was such a sweet, giving and generous person. She loved her family so very, very much. I will miss her so much, but feel so lucky to have known her.

We are so terribly sorry for your loss.

  • I have such good memeories of Andi – as a little girl with a sweet smile and sweet disposition; our three family trip to Mazatlan, being glad and proud for her in her many achievements as she grew up and older; and of her visit to me with the boys a few years ago. Such a loss. She made the world a better place.

  • Dear Andi’s Family,

I’m am very saddened to hear of your loss, as I didn’t know Andi well but shared in the RCIA experience with her last year at church and then the casual run in at CBRC or around town. From what I did get to know of her she loved her family more than anything and she was a very nice person.

    Keeping your family in prayer,

  • Ruthie, I was so very sorry to hear of your loss of Andi. My heart goes out to you and your family. I remember her from when I worked with you at Wheat Ridge HS. She ran with us a few times and I always enjoyed hearing updates about her from you during her nursing school years. She was a charming and lovely woman and I know you will miss her deeply.

  • Dear John,

I am very sorry to be reconnecting at this point in our lives, but Dan Sullivan forwarded me Andrea`s obituary and I felt compelled to extend my condolences. It is a rare coincidence that it seems our lives had some parallels over the years. I lived in Breckinridge for a winter like your wife, and my wife and I adopted a baby in Colombia SA in 2000. I am very sorry for your loss and wish you peace and love.

  • Dear Cooper, Ruth and Carol,

I was so saddened to hear about Andi losing her battle. I have wonderful memories of us as children. We had so much fun! Especially our travels to Mexico, and our little trips to the swimming pool in “The Bug”, Andi crammed into the back with Cindi because they were the smallest. I wish that I could have known her grown up family, but was kept up to date from my mom. My prayers are still with you all.
