DALE SASSER

Dale Sasser, 91, passed away on January 18, 2009 in Richland. He was born on April 12, 1917 in northern Arkansas to Joseph and Bernice Sasser. He was the eldest of nine children. After graduating from high school, he married. During WWII he served in the Army on the battlefields in Germany. After the war, he, his wife and son moved to the northwest to join two of his brothers who had already relocated. Dale was employed as a bus driver at the Hanford area for over 30 years. He enjoyed wood work-building grandfather clocks, cabinets and end tables; as well as re-modeling his own home. His lawn was so well kept that people said that it looked like a golf course!

Dale was an active member of Southside United Protestant Church. He enjoyed going to the Richland Bomber basketball games and Cougar football games in Pullman-generally coming home hoarse from cheering for the "home team." Other recreational pursuits included gardening-he always had a garden of vegetables, roses and "dinner plate" sized dahlias; attending Old Time Fiddlers programs and county fairs.

He and his wife enjoyed a marriage of 60+ years. Dale is preceded in death by his son, James Dale and his wife Versel. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Callahan, son-in-law Kent Callahan; daughter-in-law, Christa Sasser; two granddaughters, Mary Sue Jewett and Christa Wilhelm, and their families. Also surviving him are one sister, Josephine; and three brothers, Varin, Norvin and Efton. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.at Einan's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Memories at Sunset Event Center, located behind Einan's Funeral Home, for January 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland.

  • I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Your dad and mom were so kind to me. I can still hear your dad’s laugh and your mom’s voice. Besides having the best kept yard, he had the cleanest garage I have ever seen and I was just a kid! Thank you for all those years of including me on your family trips to Ohanapechosh. Your mom and dad always made me feel welcome. I will cherish the many years and memories – remember Lawrence Welk on Friday night. Please remember you will alway be welcome in our home! Love, Brenda

  • I am sorry about the loss of your loved one. words cannot describe feelings in a time like this. Many have found comfort in the Bible’s promises of seeing our past loved ones again such as at John 5 verses 28 and 29. Take care of yourselves and keep memories of your past loved one close.

  • Dale, and my dad Smokey Moyers, worked together at the bus lot. They were the “SNOPES” of yesterday. If bus drivers said so, then so it was! I remember your dad, Thornton, Hogue, Cruz. DeMers, etc. May you be strengthened by others fond memories of him. The Moyers family sends their condolances.
